Rear License Plate Mount

Howdy,

Has anyone else fitted slim-line license plates to their FL2?

I had personalised plates that I owned from previous vehicle and fitted them to my FL2 SE. Only problem being that the rear license plate screws to a black plastic mounting block (if that makes sense) which is the exact size as a standard WA license plate. Hence when I mount a slim-line plate, half the mounting block sticks out the bottom ant looks horrible.

I notice in pictures of Euro FL2s that they dont have the plastic mounting block at all.

Intersted to see what others have done. Can I just remove it and mount the plate directly to the tailgate (without the use of a drill!!)? THe slimline plates have all the standard holes for mounting.

Cheers in advance,
Dave

A lot of dealers in the UK mount the plates using double sided sticky pads but the plates don't have holes using this method, not sure if this helps or not, maybe you could stick them on and glue some screw heads in the holes for a neater job. Gone, 2007 TD4 SE Auto Baltic blue, clear side repeaters, full sized alloy spare.

English by birth..... Yorkshire by the grace of God.

Agree with speedway - ours are just stuck on with double sided tape (It looks to have a little bit of foam inbetween the two sticky surfaces) try typing 'number plate tape' into an auction site and you will be spoilt for choice, generally it's around 25mm wide Thumbs Up N.B. once it's stuck...it's stuck Laughing so get them level first time.

For anyone interested, I found a company based in Tasmania who manufacture custom brackets for mounting all the different sized australian plates onto any car. I ordered the rear slimline bracket and it fitted perfectly, and looks great.
