The thread was locked to try to nip it in the bud, but those who were involved couldn't leave it and opened another thread to continue the argument instead of moving on

Just in case my opinions should upset anyone else, maybe Ii should just police it with a iron fist and not join in Confused

Enjoy the forum, stick with the rules and you'll be fine, any derogatory comments made about anyone's choice of past time, colour choice, occupation will be moderated. Exclamation Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I have never supported the practice of capital punishment re the beastliness of hanging of a child for stealing a sheep or the modern practice of lethal injection, the electric chair, hanging etc., but the "parking" of the National Parks' debate thread leaves me to debate that perhaps corporal punishment may have a place in society.

For example the removal of hands for theft could be considered applicable to the theft of another's property i.e. their thoughts and writings. In which case the "parking" applied to that thread is an act of theft [censorship] and not moderation which by its accepted definition implies being diplomatic; acting with restraint and forbearance permitting all parties to be heard.

Just sharing my thoughts on resent proceedings.

EYorkshire come back, don't depart - the world needs sensitivity to counter the draconian that lurks in every follicle of humankind.

I don't think I should apologise for my opinions, we live in a country that allows free speech,

Mr Pinks
If only you had the courage to actively support your statement re "free speech" instead of choking off debate because Joe Smith or Fred Bloggs respond negatively to one of your comments. Defend your corner - debate the matter - allow the ebb and flow of opinion. That way you'll enrich the content not suffocate the subject with censorship. And by all means "moderate" any foul language or material likely to cause harm.

What's happening in the nation's National Parks and their future is of great interest to many - run with the ball even if it's not your favourite game. Please, as we all on here want and value your contribution.

Hi all,

I've just spotted this thread, apologies for not joining in sooner.

Part of the problem here is that Nick is participating as both an individual and a moderator. He did what I would have done in the same circumstances and closed the original thread, as it was only likely to lead to further arguments which weren't necessary. This is being seen as controlling his side of the argument which I don't see as being the case, but stopping the degeneration of the discussion.

Please draw a line under it now, keeping on at the same argument is not constructive, everyone has had their say and everyone now understands that comments have been taken the wrong way or made in a way which was misunderstood.

Remember that we are a community of different people with different interests and experiences outside of the forum. That said, there should be no intent from anyone to cause offence to other members. Similarly it should be considered that it's not always possible to infer the true meaning of comments posted on the forum, as all you can read is the words and not the tone or body language you would have face to face.

The forum is very open and threads are not closed often at all, we don't have many big rows and I'd like to keep it that way Thumbs Up

Let this be the last word otherwise I will have to do a bit of door knocking Twisted Evil On reflection I believe Martin is correct, it is words only and we interpret those the best way we can in the absence of facial/body expressions. I'm sure Nick meant no personal attack on myself and we should go on the same as before Confused (if that was a good thing).

Done and dusted, gone and forgotten Thumbs Up, unfortunately in my anger my gallery is gone Crying or Very sad

EDIT: No Nick, don't change your moderation, I can understand the difficulty of 'modding' and being 'one of the boys', sometimes it's hard to be both. I still need my daily dose of comic relief. Thumbs Up

No CG, not until you've thrown Greece out of the EU and forced Cameron to have a referendum on the UK's EU membership. And stop kidding us about being on holiday - I've seen the Cannes' hotel room reservation for one CG and AM with the account settled out of the Franco/German "relationship" fund.
