Good luck zone30: as earlier mentioned the stealers do get fed up with repeated DPF cleaning and give in the end by fitting a new system. Biggest problem as I see it is how long will the new one last 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

My MY11 TD4 manual has done 10.5K in 11 months, mostly on A and B roads with the occasional long run on a motorway or dual carriageway. So far (touch wood) i've had no need to clean the DPF or had any problems with it. Also know that the FL2 at LRE which spend most of their time off road going slowly do not seem to suffer DPF problems or need anything special in terms of running on roads to keep the DPF filter clean. |

Ok they regenerated the DPF costing me 140 euros (100 GDP) as it is "not a warranty issue". And they said all is ok with the system.

My condolences, zone30. The DPF-system which JLR has patched together in FL2 is crap.. sorry to say that. If this plight has befallen you, there won't be an easy cure. And they won't admit that anything is not in order with their cars and nobody except them will be able to get into electronics As AnyC wrote, they will change the pressure-sensors or some components in the exhaust-system, then reset the ECU and you will drive without problems till the next re-generation which occurs approximately after 850km driven and you will have to pay for this forcible regeneration at service stations. They will tell you that you do to much short-distance-driving Not to mention a constant fear that a 'reduced-engine-performance' and 'visit-the-dealer'-messages can pop up when you attend to urgent appointments. You might be invited to unplanned engine-oil-changes let's say after every 5 Tkm due to oil-dilution connected to frequent unsuccessful DPF-regeneration attempts, during which unburnt diesel fuel gets into the oil. That is what they call an endurable 4x4 vehicle that can get almost anywhere. May be, if you drive motor-way all the time it won't let you down Ok, I don't want to become to sarcastic. And I don't accept any talk suggesting that this is a commonly known problem for all brands. I suppose that FL2 is not the most popular 4x4-vehicle in Germany (if I am not mistaken, half a year ago the production of 250.000 FL2 was celebrated to compare with VW Tiguans' approx. 600.000, most of them sold in Germany). So, in our LR-Forum there are already 143 pages written in the DPF-problem-thread http://www.blacklandy.de/blboard/forum/sho...p;page=143 You can get there complete stories of fading hopes for finding a permanent solution to DPF-problem. If somebody finds a similarly long thread in a forum for another relatively rare car model, please let me know I have cut out the DPF and replaced with an electronic-box imitating the presence of DPF. The ECU doesn't recognize this device, therefore the yellow engine-warning-light goes regularly on, but, thanks God, I got rid of the thing, which JRL calls a normally functioning DPF. These guys should move their to find a cure for what they messed up. I hope somebody's legal complaint against the manufacturer will be successful one day.. Good luck, zone30!

There is a real simple way of beating the system to a regen before it becomes clogged and without diagnostic gear.

DPF was not fitted in the UK until, I think, 2010. Before that only Europe export models were fitted and they seem to be the ones that have most of the problems, at least those reported on the Forum.
