Tried it this morning on the M40, hmm jury still out as to how good or bad, is was better than it was, I suspect the engine is bedding in a not as tight which will help and also I dont tend to "squirt" past the car in front as much which saves some.

Cruise does NOT apply brakes in Freelander, the Merc used to, I could tell because it also turned on the brake lights to warn those behind, clever those Germans

Back from hols now and the drive down to Southampton and back. I tried using cruise control on the way down and returned a (I think) respectable 37mpg whilst keeping to a steady 70mph on the motorways. However, on the return journey I tried it without cruise and achieve just over 38mpg! So, not a lot in it really and still unsure as to whether it is better to use CC. It can help in those boring bits of roadworks where the average speed cameras want you to keep to 50mph but otherwise I'm not sure........

Ive used CC on the freeways of America, wonderful, in the UK its a take to much involvment, many times I turn it on only to realise a few miles later that I've braked a little and turned it off and have reverted back to foot control subconsciously.

And yes braking on a motorway is a sin I know but as I said before cruise control allows gaps to grow and BMW/Audis will always find that gap causing me to either brake or ready the pedal enough for the cruise control to switch off At work

Nothing to do with CC MPG, but what do people do with their right foot when using CC?

I find I don't use CC because I don't like moving my right foot completely away from the pedals, unless an empty road, so it hovers and gets tiring very quickly.
