Other countries that have it far worse than us have snow on a regular basis, almost guaranteed so it is geared up financially and logistically to deal with it.
The UK statistically has very few days of snow or none at all other than the Highlands of Scotland and the high points of England and Wales and what usually occurs on lower ground can be dealt with by gritting. It would make no financial sense to allocate millions in machinery, labour etc for something that may or may not happen annually.
Just enjoy it when it comes and perhaps volunteer yourselves to your elderly neighbours as I do when it's bad.

what about the poor saps who live in rural areas, roads barely gritted. And think of the purchasing officer at the local county council railed in a mild winter if he over stocked up on salt , hammered in a cold winter if he runs out.

A mate of mine lost his job in stock planning at an ice cream factory after believing there was going to be a hot summer and having freezer warehouses full of unwanted icecreams in rainy summer of 2008. At work

Just thought I would post this link guys regardless of whether you love or hate the snow.

It's an update from James Madden who is maintaining his original forecast and now mentions the areas most likely to be affected.

Got an FL2 purely for the bad weather. 'Er indoors works for a cancer hospice and needs to get to work. As CG mentioned, we are aslo very rural and have to travel 6 miles on untreated lanes.

Despite my love of driving on the white stuff with my winter tyres, i'm still very much aware that, although in most instances i can bring my FL2 to a stop, those behind can't.

In other words, i only make absolutely necessary trips in bad weather on public roads. I never go 'out to play' in bad conditions and put others or myself at risk on public roads.
I get my practice on a very large empty car park. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.
