Deeper Style Number Plates

I've seen reference to deeper number plates (rear?) in a post on another subject. I have noticed that the standard size rear plate fitted by the dealer on my new SD4 does look a bit too small for the space provided on the tailgate. As I need a new trailer number plate I thought I might use the car one on the trailer and get a larger one that would look more appropriate for car. Does anyone know where these can be sourced?

Any advice much appreciated as usual.

BTW, keep meaning to post some pics of my Buckingham Blue / Almond SD4 HSE. Unfortunately, SWMBO keeps getting it dirty before I can photograph it. Maybe I should have stuck to Orkney Grey so that the dirt wouldn't show!

George - It's exactly 21'' x 6'' (Tried to get the numbers in metric but it gets into all sorts sorts of .23566687553 Laughing
I guess the width at 21'' is std but it's the 6'' high you need to order - from 'where' from is your choice I guess Thumbs Up

Your dealer should have fitted the larger plates. it's a legacy from Rover - which I think they copied from Rolls Royce. Larger ones look much better.

Rover and MG had fab great big numberplates on the 75 amd ZT/ZTT..I think it's a failure of the dealerships to buy suitable plates!

I don't want that ruddy eu flag on my car either

I changed mine for larger style euro plates as the small plates look silly and i dont like gb stickers when driving abroad!

I found the best place to get the plates from was my dealer. They we cheaper, were fully road legal (with the BS stuff) and I bet if it was in for a service they would have fitted for free. Avoid at all costs internet show plate companies that claim they do not need to see V5's. I have had bad experiences where the plates did not turn up and they are NOT road legal, despite them looking road legal (if they dont have BS stamp then they are not road legal) Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints

Captain W, I think I'll follow your advice. Some of the internet companies look like trade only as they require login details.

Do you know if the front plates are standard size?

I've had several sets of plates from a company called My Showplates (http://www.myshowplates.com) and have found the service excellent. They do all the standard and non standard sizes including the 21" x 6" for the back of the FL2. Prices are competitive and the plates carry the BS marking unless you specify otherwise.

Now fitted larger plate to rear. In the end I went to Halfords - at just over £15 it was as cheap as online suppliers and saved hassle of sending off paperwork. Looks much better and required supplier's markings are very small and discreet.

I ordered 2 pm Thursday and they 'phoned 9am Friday to say it was in - came from Signam in Birmingham.
