Non spec tyres

I know this has probably been asked many times but i've noticed most people here fit either General Grabber at, coopers etc and that non of them are V rated. My car specifiys 235 65 17 V rated and the only premium brands I have seen are continental or goodyear which give any off road ability. Both of these dont particulary get good reviews so would prefer another brand.

What have other people done concerning your insurance and has fitting a 'H' rated tyre increased your premiums. Or have you not told your insurance?

I'm really p****d off that landrover have specified 'V' rated when no AT tyre is of this rating. Do they not know why people buy them?

There is just one All Terrain tyre made as a 235/65 R17 108V, if that helps:

A H rated tyre is rated at 130mph which you will never do in your freelander2. So surely it does not really matter!

As long as your insurer agrees with you before you have an accident....

PS: I had forgotten about an insurance accessor coming to see a car that I wrote off some time ago who checked not only the condition, but the specification of each individual tyre before my claim was authorised...

Why would you have an accident?? I would say a large percentage of cars on the road in this country don't have the correct speed rating.

Land rover use to sell a car where the the top speed was higher than the speed rating on the tyres

Has anyone informed their insurance company and how much has it increased their premium by?

I Just renewed my insurance with LR Insurance, mentioned once more about me changing wheels and using AT tyres from November until March, just in-case it might be deemed to be a mod' the rep said "she didn't think it mattered but would check" came back on the phone after a minute or two and said "we're not interested"! Thumbs Up

The sticker just inside the driver's side door specifies 235/65/17 H, but larger diameter tyres are all listed as V. My car is an 07 model, so this may have changed with later production.

Inside my door for 2009 model it says either 104H or 108V for the 235 65 17. Owners manual says only V. Rang Landrover for clarification and seems I might have wrong sticker but couldn't really answer and told me to ring Central tyres. This was a good move as they provide Hunters with tyres. Hunters selling them at £189 +vat but Central tyres £140 all in.

Incidently Wranglers all weather HP are 104V Michellin latitude cross are 108H so sticker further reduced choice. After not getting an answer from landrover I was well pi**ed off!!

Well the car will only manage 115mph, so H rated tyres are fine as it's physically impossible to exceed their upper speed limit. And the 104 load rating is adequate for the weight of the vehicle. So I can't see what the issue would be.

Michelin list the 108H Latitude Cross as suitable for the FL2.
