Difference in price with dealers and nothing like 'whatcar'

Hello everyone,

I'm searching for a FL2 and am a bit surprised in the difference in prices between dealers.

A dealer with quite a bad reputation has a 2010 GS model at £19.5k and i have just spoken to another dealer with a much better reputation and his 59 GS was the same price. Whatcar valuation says that the 59 reg should be less than £17k.

Is the whatcar 'dealer price' valuation useless as it seems way out?

The Whatcar prices are just a guide, anything offered for sale is worth as much as anyone is prepared to pay, I know of a Freely being offered for sale at a silly price a while ago, and mentioned it to them, a month later it still hadn't sold, they dropped the price on the screen by £2500 and a week later it was gone. The dealer will put a price based on what he thinks he can get for it, some have very high expectations though.
Good luck with your search Thumbs Up

If you do a national search on Land Rovers website you will find that £19.5k is right from a Dealer for a 2010MY GS Td4-e.

Prices will rise as the forecast is for a bad winter. Second hand values depend on availability. There is expected to be a shortage as there are no discounts or offers on new cars so fewer are being part exchanged. I recently made some tentative enquiries to buy a new FL2 GS. I was told that one could be order for £26k but would not be built until March 2012 as the order books were full with Evoques. A p/x price would depend on values in March 2012. The dealer would take my car now for £17k. I decided to keep my 59 plate FL2.

How times have changed. Two years ago I bought mine for £23k and the finance was also incentivised with a further £1k dealer contribution.

A 59 plate GS recently sold on here privately for £18+k.

Good luck with your search. A Land Rover owner since 1988

What a difference 18 months make. £3500 discount on a new TDe GS then, hardly anything now. On the bright side, used prices must benefit from this as long as you don't want to px at LR!

Annie - try Black Horse Car Sales in Birmingham.
Example price and if you quote CSMA membership (no proof required) and haggle, you get another £500 off the screen price. Our 58 MY GS with 30K was £14800 with a years tax included plus 1 year warranty from 1st Jan 2012.

On list at moment, no 2010 MY but
Land Rover Freelander 2 2.2 Td4 Gs 5dr
Oldbury, Birmingham Red 2009 Diesel Manual 64,000 £14,995 (Haggle £14500)

For comparison my local dealer Harwoods had the same model we bought but a year older at £18000, knoocked down to £16000 when I quoted the one we were going to buy.
Still bought from Black Horse and she is lovely

Annie - PS I have no connection with Black Horse but I do belong to the CSMA which is the Civil Service Motoring Association - we get cheaper breakdown cover. Very Happy My experience is Black Horse were good to deal with, got the remainder of the LR warranty and then an extra year. Car was really clean on pick up and no problems to date, except I cant get it off the wife Rolling with laughter

HAGGLE!

I'm guessing that prices are rising now is that it is approaching winter and people are thinking car+snow = a 4x4 of some description!

Haggle as I did. I got $4000 Aussie dollars (£2600) off my Freely. And don't worry if you are financing it either and haven't got the cash to dangle in front of them either. A sale is a sale! They should be biting your arm off in this current climate. But be prepared to walk away if you are not happy with the deal.

Also wait a week. Dealers may need to get there sales figures up for the month, so there should be even more flexibility in the price. Or at least have some "extras" thrown in.

All the best with it though, you'll love the car - when you finally get one!

PS: Did I mention to haggle? Wink

Haggle works well when the Dealers and manufacturer has lots of unsold vehicles. Problem for Land Rover customers in the UK is that there is little new stock available. Delivery on a build to order Freelander 2 is now being quoted as March 2012 while for an Evoque you're probably looking at June/July 2012.
Most of the Halewood production seems to be heading overseas at the moment - a situation that probably won't change too much until the new joint venture factory in China is up and running.
That said I got 13% of my Freelander 2 XS manual in November 2010
