Also, they have quite a low speed rating (T). I thought at least H would be required for a Freelander...

Had a chat with my insurance company before fitting about this and they said "as long as the speed rating of the tyre is higher than the maximum speed of the vehicle quoted by the vehicle manufacturer, they will be fine" Of more importance is the load rating and as 106 falls within the 104 to 108 recommended for 17" wheels they should be fine, but if in doubt contact your insurance company and let them know of any changes.

The AT/SA tyres in the States have the snowflake symbol on them, as do the U.S equivalent of the General Grabber AT tyre + others. Unfortunately this symbol does not appear on tyres destined for Europe or where the tyres are manufactured outside the U.S, but as far as I can gather, the compound is the same as those with the snowflake symbol on them. Here's a better explanation of the symbol but once again not valid for europe! Thumbs Up

Doing a little more investigation there seems to be a bit of European tyre shortage at the moment because of some change in EU legislation.

A lot of changes taking place mean that many tyres will become unsaleable. Since the regs include noise standards, AT tyres will be particularly hit. Good summary at http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.a...&mid=0

Switzerland 2011 Freelander 2 TD4_e GS Manual Sumatra Black

Just bought a set of 5 vredestein wintrac 4s for £116 each.

Reckon the price is probably the best in the uk at the moment but with snow falling today in Scotland and a cold weekend ahead many drivers thoughts will turn to the purchase of winter tyres, demand will rise, stocks will fall but more importantly prices will escalate.
So don't delay buy now before it's too late Wink

Havent read all the posts, but I can tell you this. I have 16" rims for my winter-tyres (Conti 4x4 IceContact. Espescially for SUV's) and I have 18" rims for my summer tyres (the Pirelli's that are delivered along with the car). And both are standard Land Rover rims for the FL2.

17" rims are usable for winter conditions, but 16" rims are better, as you get more rubber in contact with the snow. As I understand, you are going for 16" rims, and that is recomendable.
So two sets of tyres, -that's the solution! Takes me 30 minutes to change, and I do it myself. Piece of cake. It is very easy to change tyres on the FL2, as it is very clearly marked where to put the jack when you are to jack up the car.

Dont know if this was any help?
