Stocking up on screenwash for winter

Last winter every store around here had sold out of the 5 litre tubs of screenwash and were even struggling with the smaller tubs.

The problem is it needs to be used neat or very strong concentrate to avoid freezing in the pipes. Heated washer jets will only help where the name suggests.

A local company my dad does business with just down the road from me stocks screenwash in 25 litre drums which is nearly 5.5 gallons. Our plan is to buy one and using a funnel top up a smaller 5 litre tub to fill the car's container with.

The cost for this drum is £26+ VAT. They do sizes up to 1000 litres if you want to go mad Shocked don't know the cost of those.

screen wash

My wife doesn't like a "screenwash" smell when washing the screen. So we always use Halfords own brand ready mixed stuff, which has a sort of scented fragrance about it. Diluted 5:1 in summer and neat in winter, often on a bogof. So stock up when ever it's on offer.

Your wife is the complete opposite of mine, loves the smell of it, just when it's had a good clean and polish, up the road she goes, then washes the screen, because it smells nice Rolling Eyes

Screen Wash

Just as a side to this discussion, I lost my pressure washer last winter to freezing up and it was suggested that I shouls have used some screen wash through the system to stop frezing up in future.
Maybe I should be looking to an antifreeze product.

Not a good idea that Shocked
Use a screen wash that protects to -15 degrees for example - may cost a few more pennies than water but I am sure you can afford it. Thumbs Up 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

I have already stocked on 50 litres of undiluted screen wash as well as 20 cans of screen defrost spray since August. Last year I could not find any when I needed it. Of, I bought 30 kg of de-icing salt for my drive too! Wink
