Colour coded door mirrors

I need to get my rear bumper resprayed, due to an argument with the corner of a brick wall yesterday; the parking sensors didn't pick up the fact that the wall was there probably because it was right on the corner .
anyhow my question is if there's any surplus paint can the door mirrors be sprayed ? Do they need primer first and also are the factory coloured mirrors exactly the same or do they have painted covers ?

Hi Ian, a few answers to your questions.

I wouldn't recommend painting the backs of the current mirrors you have, it's a rough finished plastic.
IF your painter can get the paint to stick properly, it could initially look OK but might not be durable enough. Also regarding the finish unless he/she uses a filler primer then the finish is going to be a rough.
Your year of car can accept the mirror 'covers' which LR sell either primed or colour coded. fyi I got the already painted ones pt no LLR004837 which are grey but the part number might help our forum sponsors or the dealer quote for your car colour. Also have a search on the auction site.

Factory colour mirror are caps that stick on, though i believe the latest are ones that click off to be replaced with the painted ones (i'm sure i read that on here)

If you was to colour code the existing mirrors, they would have to be fully cleaned, to remove any possible silicone, then primed with a plastic primer, then sprayed and then lacquered. A good quality body shop should be able to do this

but i think the mirrors caps would be a better option and may work out cheaper

Thanks for your comments. I thought that it wouldn't be right just painting the existing mirrors, so maybe I'll look into getting the covers and then getting them painted. Don't suppose LR do ready painted ones in Izmir Blue ?
