Speccing with LR PTi as an option, then don't!

I don't know if Freelander2 has PTI as standard on all models but if not don't spec it as a factory fitted option. I have just had the dealer fit a Parrot CK3100 in my Sport SE that didn't come with handsfree or PTi. It ahs cost me £285 fitted by the dealer and it is a very good system - will display the phone book from you mobile, mutes the ICE if that is on when you make or receive a call and will recognise any mobile phone or PDA with B/T except some types of PDA running certain software. Only small gripe that I have is that the installer didn't exactly put it in an attractive position where it looks like it's integrated to the dash, but I'll cure that myself with a screwdriver and some velcro. Cost installed by an LR dealer was £285. Will post some pics later How can carbon have a footprint, it has no feet?

Tim

I've got a similar parrot kit in my GS, as only XS and above come with PTI as standard.

I have to say though that I think your dealer saw you coming. You can buy the CK3100 kits for less than £100, plus about £50 for tele mute lead.

So your dealer has charged you about £150 to remove the radio, plug in a standard wiring loom and refit the front - no more than 1/2 hrs work.

Sorry about that.

Ah yes, but as somebody with 2 left hands and 10 thumbs who has not a jot of knowledge about taking my car to pieces I would rather pay the dealer to do it than wreck the interior and break the Parrot myself.... and my RRS is still under warranty so I would rather not inflict any problems for which Land Rover could charge me even more to put right How can carbon have a footprint, it has no feet?

I totally agree with you Tim, the factory fit PTI on both the Sport & the FL2 is completely rubbish for the price you pay.

Parrott is definitely the way to go & at a fraction of the cost of LR’s PTI. So to anyone thinking of going for the PTI option……….DON’T DO IT Shocked

While the FL2’s PTI is certainly a major step up from the system in the D3 or RRS, it’s still by no means brilliant, supporting only a very few of today’s phones & at that, certain models only running a particular firmware version. Fine if you can update your phones software, but realistically even if you can do such things, why should you have to, after lashing out on the PTI.

Whereas the Parrott seems to support pretty much every model phone on the market, both current & older. With a little bit of taste applied to the installation, it can look just as OEM as a factory fit job.

It’s an awful pity that LR didn’t speak to Parrott about designing the system for the FL2 Rolling Eyes “You feel uneasy, as the mad scientist locks the door behind you & dissolves the key in a vat of Acid”

Have found out why the Parrot was a bit expensive to fit by asking another company that fits them.......... turns out that many Parrot fitters will not work on an RRS because the job involves dismantling the entire centre console back to the gearbox to get at the audio system and find enough space to install the B/T unit. They don't like the risk of damaging or scratching any of the centre consol units. Best done by a Land Rover dealer they said! Also RRS electronics are done with fibre optic cabling and that is not liked by 3rd party installers apparrently How can carbon have a footprint, it has no feet?

Hello all my first post!

I'm due to collect my new FL2 next Wednesday, and was looking at how easy it will be to integrate my existing Parrot 3100 kit from my Ford Focus ST.

I had to buy an additional loom for that car, will I need a new loom for the FL2? If so, any links to what I need please? Maybe the Ford loom will work?

Many thanks, and look forward to be around a bit in the future.

Just had a rental car (Mazda 5) with the 3100 fitted and I have to say it was dam good, better than I expected and in terms of connection it worked like a treat, and the phone calls were clear at both ends.

Yes, it's a great bit of kit...once fitted!

I think I shall put this up as a fresh post to get more views.

Thanks.

Hi

The looms are specific to each model of car, and quite often different for different stereos. I can't imagine a Focus loom working with the FL2. I thought these leads were quite cheap though.

Yes, they're about £15 I recall. Does anyone know which one I need?
