2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Stornoway Grey
Immobiliser issue / car reset its own trip meter figures ???

After 3 weeks of trouble free operation (that's how long i've had the car), this morning, it wouldn't start.

Key was in the hole, foot on the clutch, press the start button and "some" lights come on (i think the alarm light flashed quickly as well). Just no engine response with the start button (also, the system check message didn't display). Released the key then placed it back in the hole, pressed the start button and all OK - engine started.

The odd thing is that the trip reset itself (both the consumption/speed bit in the centre as well as the right hand side miles trip).

I'm guessing this is a bit more than just not registering the key id but thought id ask if anyone else had anything similar with the trips being reset.

I've been using this key for the past 2 weeks, so assume its been charged OK (i'll start carrying the second key in case).

Any ideas???

this was/is a known fault on the earlier cars mines an 08 and has never done it so they must have found a cure. At work

Do you know if it just required a software fix by LR or is it something that has to be "lived with" ?

This happens if your battery goes flat. Sounds like your car "thought" the battery was flat, although it obviously wasn't. Why it should do that, though, I'm afraid I have no idea.

This is a software update, which, if goes well is about 30 minutes. I had mine done earlier this year after the same symptoms you mentioned.

That's good news indeed. I'll get myself of to LR as soon as i can.

In the meantime (i.e. until i get to LR) - from experience, wizking, has the problem ever been terminal, i.e. has re inserting the key always worked to at least get the car started.... or may i find myself stranded at some point ?

Just planning the urgency of a software update. Also, am i likely to get blank looks from the dealer with the usual "never seen that before sir" Rolling Eyes

Nope, not terminal. To avoid it happening at all, it helps to give 5 seconds between putting in the fob and pushing the start button.

To assist the invoice for my software update states;

Carried out technicla bulliton reflashing IPK bcm and solar sensor.

No idea what that means but thats what it says!!

A similar sort of thing has happened to me when I was in a rush and pressed the start button extremely quickly after inserting the key. Nothing on pressing start… I then spent 5 minutes trying to get the key out to no avail. Eventually after about 10 minutes the “low battery” sign came up on the radio display and it spat the key out on its own! Strange…
Never had a problem since but I do give it time now to check itself before attempting to start. 57 HSE AUTO with H.I.D's - Grey with Black leather. (H.S.E. Heightadjustable Seats Extra Sad )

For me, after all available software updates (06/2011), only installing an additional ground cable between battery and gearbox cured the problem. i think, also poor condition of the battery can be the origin.
