Thanks. If you think it was sad having to part with it from that photo, check out what it looked like underneath, even after I'd done 47,000 miles in it:

EV,
I used to visit Longbridge regulary as part of my job. This was some years after the 'troubles'.
I thought Rover had begun to turn things around, R600 wasn't a bad car and R75 was a big improvement.
When i first saw the Mini, you knew instantly that it would sell and the team at Canley had surely come up with a winner.

There are those in high places who should be ashamed at the events since the Mini was conceived.

Longbridge was special place to me, difficult to explain why. Maybe it's the history and Stanley Edge had his first job there!!

Sounds like you & me are very much alike. I can't explain the feeling I had the first time I turned up to "Q" Gate on my first factory tour, it was a very sureal feeling, most strange. I was invited to go there last weekend as they have just opened a new sales centre (The old Round Building) but I couldn't be bothered just not the same though I do think the MG6 is a very good car having driven it & the TSE has lots of kit! (Past) Freelander 2 HSE 2010 MY In Rimini Red.

You bring back memories. 'Q' gate was where i used to drive in with the roundhouse on the left.
I got around the factory on a bicycle.
Gulp. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

So why did you part with the car? Rolling with laughter

Looks a lovely example. Bet you had no problem selling.

Great question! Laughing

Would you believe that I advertised it on all of the specialist website and not a single enquiry Sad I had a trade in organised and felt sure I'd sell it before the deadline. In the end, it went as a trade in Shocked

The dealer was due to sell it in the trade and had purchased it from me unseen. When they saw it, they simply left it at the front of the forecourt, put a "for sale" sticker on it and within two days it had gone. They didn't even have to service it, let alone clean it Evil or Very Mad

I came across it about 6 months later and spoke to the new owner. It hadn't been looked after and she had no idea what she had; as far as she was concerned it was just a "Blue MINI" Sad

Thanks a lot Thumbs Up Always good to get a compliment from a professional! If I'd been able to keep one car and mothball it, it would have been that one!

PS: Kept the plate though Wink (I live just outside Liskeard, in Cornwall)

Interesting....

If you don't mind me asking, what vintage is Dougal, it seems to be a bit of a mix.

This is not for the 'purists' amongst you Smile

Apparently it's a mixture of all that she likes:
A MK3 1987 with a 1966 MK1 look Confused
Seats from 2000 circa model
No external door hinges and it has wind up windows

I know Golant very well. When Kathy and I got married, we did it for a very tight budget and held the wedding reception at the Youth Hostel at Golant Thumbs Up They'd never done a reception before and we all sat down to Youth Hostel food! It was a huge success Very Happy

I stayed there for the night before the wedding and walked down to the pub right at the very bottom of the hill overlooking the railway and the estuary.

My Unlce owns the farm next to the hostel!!

The pub, the 'Fishermans Arms'. As you look towards the railway there is a house surrounded on three side by water at full tide. My Auntie once lived there.
I used row there on regatta day.
And my old proper original Mini got very wet as the tide came in.
I still go there every year although i don't know a soul there anymore. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

My first experience of the Fisherman's Arms was when I went there one night in the spring of 1985. I was staying with a friend at the YHA (lived in Hertfordshire at the time) and we went down to the pub with some Australians that we'd met there. As far as I remember, the Conservative Club was shut and they were meeting at the pub instead and I think I wound up speaking to the MP for a while...

I spent the whole evening referring to Fowey as "Fow - E" and no one corrected me! Rolling Eyes
