Had a bad night. Woke to hear glass in the door being smashed. Someone had broken it to get the keys (yes, they were in the door... I know that wasn't a smart move)

Luckily I was down quickly and the would be car thief was too stupid to work out how to start the car! He didn't even get the fob in. If he had known what he was doing or had any experience with FL2 he would have had enough time to start it before I got out. He ran away and took the keys with him!

Obviously we're not happy but it could have been worse if he had got the car with the baby's pram etc in the boot (all covered)

Does anyone know (me dad seems to think) that replacing keys and lock on FL2 will be covered on house insurance? Also, how much are we talking? I do have a spare key but will need to replace the stolen one and replace the manual key lock plus re-program.

I can't offer any advice but you haven't had a lot of luck with the FL2 this year. Hope you can stow it somewhere safe until you get it sorted. Andy

Have the car recovered or take to the near LR dealer with all your proof of ownership and ask them to remove the other key, not doing this could invalidate a claim if they come back

My guess the keys will have been thrown in a garden to loose the evidence

Runt? surely a spelling mistake many car insurers will replace lost or stolen keys, often with no excess, it's cheaper that paying out for a car

Try your car insurance first and see what they say.
I have heard that house insurance doesn't cover something that is already insured by another company.
Could be just in Oz though, but makes sense.

Look on the bright side - you've still got your FL2 as opposed to it being found wrapped around a lamp post etc.. It could have been a lot worse and a hell of a lot more inconvenient. Best learn from the experience and move on to enjoy your Family and Landie.

And I entirely agree with gilfishman with the added proviso that car thieves should be banned from driving for life.

Don't let the insurance know the keys were in the door or you won't get a penny from them, or that they were on view.
Many policies have clauses stating the keys must be out of sight.
