How does new SD4 get more hp?

Do we know what the difference is between the new td4 & sd4 engines? Both same size but sd4 gets up to 40hp more. How is that done?

The cars weigh the same - the difference is down to tuning/mapping of the Engine Control Unit.

doesnt matter if its lighter or not, still putting more power thru the same clutch, thrash it and the clutch will get hot, unless it has a modified clutch.

That is 'cos LR failed to submit any models for test! (Unlike VAG, who put in a fleet of VWs, Skodas, etc - no wonder they scored highly) It's down to "marketing" 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

The answer to everything in the Universe is 42

Freel2 isn't quite as big yet and our answer is a bit less, hence it's a caravan Laughing

Mr George, your quote "tow car of the yearS" doesn't say "this year" I think we have you there Whistle anyway you are in exile or Coventry or werever defective people go Laughing

To get back on track, the SD4, as far as I know, is a re mapped ECU. having one I can say, now it is running in nicely it is damn quick at all speeds and being very smooth one needs to keep an eye on the speedo, its deceivingly quiet too.
My previous car was available with 3 different power outputs 136bhp, 170bhp and 201 bhp, the latter having modified injectors too but basically the same engine with different maps. Many manufacturers do this, I guess a good way of marketing and charging more.
