due to the fact that some c@ck broke my DS door mirror I was forced to figure this out last friday.

It was very easy.

Tools you need.
===========
Large philips screwdriver
10mm spocket
Torx Set (T20 i believe is the requied one - as my cheap set is not marked)
2" wallpaper stripper / filler spreader

The required steps are .

1. Removing the cover on the door handle to reveal TWO of the screws holding door card inplace
2. Removing the 5 ( inc the above TWO )screws that hold the door card in place
3. Popping off the door card
4. removing the Tweeter and attached trim
5. Removing the old door mirror, and refitting new one.



Step 1 : removing cover on door handle - INSIDE THE CAR

As per picture in gallary insert the wallpaper stripper between the silver cover and the back door panel
Gently twist, the silver cover on the door handle will pop offThe required steps are .

1. Removing the cover on the door handle to reveal TWO of the screws holding door card inplace
2. Removing the 5 ( inc the above TWO )screws that hold the door card in place
3. Popping off the door card
4. removing the Tweeter and attached trim
5. Removing the old door mirror, and refitting new one.




Step 1 : removing cover on door handle - INSIDE THE CAR

As per picture in gallary insert the wallpaper stripper between the silver cover and the black door panel
Gently twist, the silver cover on the door handle will pop off



Step 2 : Removing the 5 screws holding the door card on.
========================================================

1. remove the 2 screws revealed by step 1 above.
2. remove the screw behind the door release / locking button
3. remove the screw on the bottom of the door card at the end of the door pocket - this is the LONGEST screw
4. The last screw is on the side of the door card, furthest from away the mirror, at the top

you should now have 5 screws, 4 the same length, and 1 long one.



Step 3 : Poppig off the door card
=================================

As perpicture in gallary, using the wallpaper stripper,and starting at the bottom of the ddoor card, either end is ok.
Insert the stripper between the door card and the door, if it is obstructed then you hve found a clip, just
move along a inch or so.
Twist firmly, you will feel and hear the the clip pop off.
Repeat this process along the bottom of the door and up the side until you have released all the clips.
The door card will now lift upwards, lift firmly to release it from the hooks that are located on the top of the door.
You can then let the door hang on the speaker wire, and lock release tube - just be gentle


Step 4 : Removing the tweeter and attached trim.
===============================================

The tweeter housing has one large plastic plug at the bottom that goes into the door.
Gently pull out, the rest of the trim round the top of the door just pulls off in 1 piece
there are no clips holding this in place.
Hang the trim through the open window - saves removing cables etc.


Step 5 : removing th eold door mirror, and refitting the new one.

Unplug the 2 cable blocks that pass through the door, you might only have 1 cable block if your mirros is not power fold with pudle light.
Using the Torx tool undo the torx screw as located behind the tweeter.
Using the 10mm socket remove the 3 nuts, also located behing th etweeter - carefull the mirror will now pull off.

Reverse the above to refit the new door mirror.

Refitting the door card and trim is the reversal of above.

I had exactly the same. I turned around, chased the car back and took them to task! I chose to buy a replacement off Ebay and changed it myself, then 'suggested' that it was cheaper to fund that rather than go to insurance. Despite my absolute lack of DIY skills, I was surprised at how easy it was.

There is a link somewhere on here to the service manual of how to take the panels off, complete with pictures. I couldn't find it but I hope someone else can, perhaps?

I have recently done the same thing and replaced the driver’s door mirror (£40 of eBay and OEM).

I used the steps detailed in the workshop manual, which closely follow your post with a few exceptions.

The manual states to disconnect the battery earth before starting work (I must say I didn't do this)

When you have unclipped the door card, disconnect the connection to the window switches and the puddle lamp, unclip the door handle cable connector. This allows you to remove the door card fully.

As it was windy when I did mine I found it easier to take the door card off and put it in the back of the car.

The longer of the 5 screws in my car was the one behind the screw cover in the door opening handle location.

If I get the time later on I will put up the relevant parts of the workshop manual.

These are powerfold mirrors, right? on my fathers fl2 i see the mirrors are realy slow in foldin in and laggy too. Im not sure if there is a way to look at the mechanism and use some grease on it so it will move smoothly?

With the mirrors in the normal driving position simply push them fully forward towards the front of the car, this will then expose the mechanism which actuates them. Any decent lube spray - WD40/silicone etc, sprayed sparingly into the mechanism followed by some gentle back and forwards agitation of the mirror should result in a much smoother and quicker operation. I did mine again recently, ignition was turned off by the way - not sure if that matters or not?

Also, don't be afraid to push the mirrors fully forwards and backwards through their full range of travel - they are designed to travel in this manner. In fact its so easy to do, my 13 year old son does it for me sometimes. MY2010 TD4 HSE Santorini Black, 19" Alloys, Almond Leather, Lux Pack, Rear Spoiler, Adaptive Xenons

Do not use WD40, it will give an immediate benefit but over time it will end up worse as it attracts dust and dirt, use a silicon spray for best results.

Just as an addendum - there is a little notch cut out on the bottom of the interior grab handle trim. Just pop a flat blade screw driver in there to release the trim. Much safer than trying to prise the trim off using a wallpaper scraper. 2010 Freelander 2 HSE Auto Santorini Black / Ebony Leather
