Dead this morning

Went out to the car this morning,

Unlocked, mirrors open, hop in and insert the key,

All I got was a few clicks and lights, tried to remove key about 10 times and got it out ok eventually

Got out locked the car, heard the doors lock but mirror stay put

I'm suspecting flat battery, or a faulty key modual as I have been having a fee steering wheel lock messages recently, but last night just as I was parking up, the radio muted and a call was incoming but it was on the phone not the system, so this might have caused the flat battery with the Bluetooth not shutting down as others have reported

Oh well LRA will be called Crying or Very sad Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Flat battery, no faults found but think it maybe to do with the Bluetooth call I received before I got out

Let's hope that was all that caused it Thumbs Up Strange though, are you saying that the bluetooth stayed connected to your phone? was the 'pairing' symbol still present on your phone inside the house? or just that it was disconnected in reality but your Freely was keeping ther connection open from its end.

No car is too far away and I received a call later on my phone, I think the car just didn't shut down fully Confused

Obviously it's on charge now but could the battery have been at fault, maybe with a lower than needed voltage to do justice to the shutdown/security stage.
Hopefully the zap from the charger for a few hours will put things right. Smile

There was/is nothing wrong what DG said.
If you won't top up the battery, it will slowly loose its capacity and last maybe about 4-5 years.
Which, in our consumer society, is quite OK, I believe.
If you follow his advice you can prolong the battery life almost double that period.
All of this, of course, if you don't have something defective in your car which will periodically drain the battery, as deep discharges are one of the batteries' enemies.

Yeah. Bluetooth only works from a radius of 10 meters.

Battery: I find that once it goes flat, then it never holds it's charge properly again and it will inevitably go dead and a replacement will be needed.

No. You can even charge the battery through a cigarette socket which is powered all time, like the one in the boot or the one on the back of the centre console, between front seats, near the aux socket.

Therefore I would assume it is ok to charge in place Thumbs Up

So going with that theory is it ok to charge all car batteries without removing the cables etc... Question 2002 Honda VFR800

My only reason for asking was because the handbook says 'damage to the electronics can happen if the battery is not disconnected. But I believe because there is an outside chance something could happen (like your charger goes up in smoke and spikes the system), they give this advice.

When alternators first came on scene, it was always advised to disconnect either the battery or the alternator as the charge would be going through the alternator and as it was not spinning it would overheat, I have known alternators burn out on charging in the past. This was a few years ago so things maybe different now.

Using a reliable and original charger, like CTEK ones, I believe that it isn't possible that things goes wrong and modules get fried, as long as the charger output voltage, at the end of the charge cycle, isn't much greater than what an alternator outputs. And electronic modules are able to take up to 16 volts and above without damage.
There are even accesories sold for charging in place.

So, I believe, they (CTEK, in the links above, and they aren't a NoName company) will not sell something like that if it was a problem.
