Folding mirrors at speed

I was driving home last night and the side mirrors were full of water, my previous car, Merc C, had heaters which seemed to be on quite a lot, never had wet mirrors at all.
Driving up the motorway I tried various things, ie screen heaters etc all to no avail, so I tried pressing both mirror switches, the mirrors folded in Shocked
I have also noticed that the rear wiper will wipe with the tailgate open, neither of these things should happen according to the manual?
Neither are cause for concern unless this could be indicative of a problem, does anyone else have a MY11 with the same traits.

The mirrors in mine will fold in at any speed up to 70mph, not above though.

mine only fold at lower speeds. Cant tell you how low it has to be but i remember being on a 30 / 40mph road and trying them and they would not fold. Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints

pressing both mirror switches folds the mirrors in that I know for sure as to if it speed restricted I can't comment. Speaking of mirrors are they meant to lower down when you select reverse gear because mine don't... Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual MY11 - 61REG Stratstone Mayfair

They stop folding in mine, at the speed of door locking.

Mine folded in when I driving around 110km/h or 70mph. Didn't test for any faster as that's the speed limit in Aus Sad

The reason I thought of doing it was trying to see if this reduced wind resistance at high speeds. Though not the safest thing to do, however seemed like an good idea whilst driving along single laned country roads. Anyone else think of this?

Not a fault peculiar to my car then, which i suppose is good.
When the manual states one thing and it doesn't happen you start to wonder what else doesn't work as it should?
I imagine the command to prevent the mirrors folding at over 12 mph is some sort of computer code on the CAN bus, it is obviously corrupt or missing.
I would hate to embark on a difficult descent to recieve a message that HDC is not available, mirrors folding made me chuckle, absent safety aids wouldn't.

Mine fold at high speed. To the poster who asked whether the mirrors should dip on reversing, the answer is yes but you have to set them. Select reverse, set the mirrors to the position you want them in, select N or D or 1st gear, go back to reverse and they should automatically go back to the position you selected fir them. That is certainly the process in my HSE and it works every time.

I take it back - mine will fold all the way up to 70mph but not beyond... clearly I was doing a little more than 30 / 40 when I tested Embarassed Probably was a motorway Whistle

I'm not sure I follow the logic of folding up to 70mph...? what purpose does it serve? Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints

As I said earlier the mirror dip on reverse is only available on HSE models so the correct answer to the original poster is
yes if you have an HSE and no if you have any other model.
