What replacement/courtesy to expect

LR Assist technician read a DPF sensor fault advised to take it to local dealer. He said he would arrange a courtesy car.. Soon after I get a call from Enterprise-Car-Rentals who tell me they provide the courtesy car and say they'll have something suitable waiting for me at the dealer - I was told and expecting either a freely or disco...

So I get to Beadles in Sidcup.. no courtesy car, but a message from Enterprise to say they have problems with their car, but they were sending someone to pick me..

... 30 minutes later a Zafira rocks up.... and whisks me off to their Orpington branch... Im told the best they offer is that Zafira, after much 'discussion' I drove away in a Astra - needed an Auto - and have been promised someone will drop by with a freely in the morning.. Very frustrating, but cant fault them for trying hard to find an acceptable solution.

Anyway, according to Enterprise LR Assist organised replacement cars are not guaranteed to be land rovers, and they only offer like to like on best efforts..

Would it have been better to book the car in my self at the local dealer, at least then have a better chance of a Land Rover dealer having a land rover courtesy car?

I have had the same problem in the past, ended with a fiesta once, I was not happy. As getting all my tools and equipment was not gonna happen. On two other occasions I have had a range rover and disco from enterprise. Another prob is that they want £50 security bond from you, which is ok if you have the money or credit card.

Problem with going direct to the Dealer is they have a limited number of courtesy cars and they are often booked up well in advance which is fine for routine servicing but probably not good for short notice repairs.

Don't expect anything, that way you won't be disappointed.
They arranged a courtesy car, one was provided, you signed up to the small print.

I have now taken the advice of our Mod on LR Assist and courtesy cars, DO NOT LIMP TO THE DEALER, if you have a problem go via LR Assist, they will get your Freely to the Dealer, mine was in the Dealers for five days (Including a weekend) before I could get a car via LR Assist, the Dealer had no courtesy cars available, as I had booked mine in with a problem LRA will are not so helpful, they will not be concerned till it has been off the road for three working days and only then if the Dealer cannot cure the fault or cannot get the required parts.

Had a 'reduced engine performance' issue last year and I got a TDV6 RRS from LR assist via Europcar. Only had it a couple of days but boy did it have a drink problem - or was it my right foot Laughing ... very nice Thumbs Up too big to park in a supermarket though Shocked

Nice! .. the Astra Enterprise put in me in first had a drink problem too - I'd forgotten how fast the fuel gauge can drop on even fairly mediocre petrol engine.

Last time I needed a car from LR Assist (it was quite a while ago) the hire firm tried to give me a tiny Vauxhall something or other. I explained that this would not pull a 4-wheel trailer full of gear the 250 miles home and their basic response was sorry, this is what LRA have paid for, and it's what you get. Eventually I asked if they had a Transit or similar, and they were much brighter and gave me a large Vauxhall van - even washed it for me Shocked . Luckily I could leave the trailer with a friendly farmer and picked it up next time I was passing.

Had a fuel gauge sensor fault on new FL2 SD, low fuel warning light ON and display 28 miles left in tank, tank was 3/4 full.
LR assist had Disco 4 HSE from Enterprise waiting at dealers, FL not ready 4 days later when I was going to Southampton (cruise) so kept the Disco, Enterprise collected Disco from our hotel (we had a Hilton B+B and parking) and had a Jaguar XF (only 90 miles from new) ready for return journey 3 weeks later.
Brilliant service all round this time.

But BEWARE, I had a problem with new Honda in 2007(part reqd was 5 weeks delivery), and was given a Mercedes C180K from Enterprise in Hamilton, a bunch of con men. KNOWINGLY Gave me car with 2 rear tyres below 1.6mm (mot fail and points on licence) and had to go 100 mile round trip for new tyres, On returning car they pointed out an almost invisible indent on rear door which when I examined closely had been a Dent Master repair and very well done, I am positive they knew of this, they then told me
Quote: car will need to be sent to accident assessment centre and will require a new door at a cost of approx £1000 plus loss of use, you are responsible for the first £400 and forfeit £50 deposit..
Honda UK soon sorted them out!! I paid nothing but it was not a nice experience. All FL2's (3) Gone
2011 Mercedes C180 CGI Gone
FL2 GS Auto SD with heated leather, factory tints, alloy spare and a few other bits.

Certainly worth checking the tyres. i hired a minibus from Budget. It was fine on the motorway but when I got to Munich (!) I noticed the handling was off, and checked the tyres. Rears were on 15psi (should be about 55!) and two brand new tyres had worn so badly they were barely legal. Just about got me back to London. I've also in the past had a Transit with tracking so badly out it wore out a new tyre between London and Yorkshire. To be fair, that was probably not the hire firm's fault. Luckily it had a brand new spare, but I wore that out as well on the way home.

On the subject of loan cars my LR dealer supplied a Mondeo Diesel auto when mine was off the road for a couple of days for servicing and a repair. On another note my wifes fiesta auto went in for an insurance repair and Enterprise gave a Toyota Prius, a very different driving experience, we got blown kisses when we drove down the road from the greenies, instead of having rocks thrown at me for spending my money on 4X4 and supporting their benenfits from all the extra tax I pay.

SD4 HSE - White - 700 miles

This is what Enterprise rolled up in when I reported the whining rear to Land Rover Assist.
Practically brand new. Great!

Had two days with it while problem was fixed.

Enterprise chap said, "We don't do much of this on Freelanders, but we're covering RRS all the time!"

The dealer supplied me with a fully kitted out Lara Croft series 3 Defender (with Tomb Raider stickers) as that's all they had.
The kids in the street loved it but the wife hated it as she was the one driving it. SD4 Sports LE Black ...
