Would like some winter tyres but can't justify the cost, will have to plough on with what I've got. Gone, 2007 TD4 SE Auto Baltic blue, clear side repeaters, full sized alloy spare.

I am deeply envious. That's early, even for Switzerland. Do you live up in the mountains?

Actually I think it would most defo get stuck in places I drove my freelander and defender, but if it can plough through a 3ft snow drift I would be impressed, but then again it may gave an electrical problem being an alfa So you think the alfa could drive through this??? Depends what you have fitted. I have heard some on here state that continentals were not all that good but the goodyear wranglers on mine proved unstoppable last winter. Other members have also praised the wranglers. Excellent picture landy19840 LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby LOT (Lord of Time) - University of Gallifrey |

To be fair I do not know the specific tyre which some members did not rate. Perhaps some will comment on this thread. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby LOT (Lord of Time) - University of Gallifrey |

Yes we live "up" the mountains - 3k ft a.s.l.. First snow fell in July - lasted only 2 days, second snow falls were in late August and hung on the peaks surrounding us on three sides for about a week, present falls are all during the nights when temperatures drop significantly and fall as rain in the low lying valleys. These falls started last weekend. The Klausen Pass above us (6.5k ft a.s.l.)will probably close in 2 weeks time until mid April. |

It depends on which Conti you fit (as with all brands of tyres - some of their models may not be the best for your car) - however the Continental Cross Contact Heavy Winter tyre fitted to her Ladyship's FL2 are excellent in these Swiss alpine winter, both on snow and ice covered roads, or, off road in deep powder snow fields. The FL2 is, in the proper hands and with dedicated quality winter tyres a very capable vehicle. Having said that, it's your FL2 and your life, so fit what you want. Chinese elastic ribbed winter bands are on sale - cheap as chips - absolutely dangerous in independent tests. Ancient Chinese proverb states: Man who spends £25k on car and 2.5pence on tyres seeks early blessing from spirits of ancestors. |

I live just outside London and thought I would be fine in last years snow, M&S tyres, 4 wheel drive, lots of electronic aids, trouble is even with all of that you still get stuck behind the car in front that hasn't got all of that, a chain is only as strong as its weakest link, if the car in front is stuck and blocking the road, you ain't going anywhere either. |
