Looking around for insurance for two cars and two drivers. Aviva is currently lowest with multicar discounts and you can get cashback on the deal. Go to www.topcashback.co.uk

One of the reasons behind the huge hike in prices is the phenomenon of "claims management companies" arranging like for like hire cars at exorbitant rentals - funnily enough the claims management companies are owned by the insurance companies.

it all comes down to insurance companies recouping their costs due to high claims, crash for cash scams and the current nature of the UK to follow in America's footsteps and sue for everything

Nearly 8k for a 2 week like for like replacement, yet I had to fight to get an extra 1k on the write off value of the car that I thought it was worth. If I'd known how much the rental was going to be I would have happily driven something at half the cost and got what I considered to be a fair write off value. Doesn't seem logical. My insurance hiked this year as well. Was with NFU, they bumped to over £900, ended up with Land Rover Insurance at around £700, but do have quite a low excess, and, as NFU 'explained', the insured vehicle value went from less than 5k to more than 35k, which is a fair point. the police don't have the time or manpower to pursue criminals, never mind visit every uninsured/untaxed/un-MOTed vehicle in the country

One good thing (amongst many) to come out of number plate recognition is(certainly in Gloucestershire) the purge on uninsured drivers. The Police impound the car and it is not released until the miscreant produces a valid certificate. The Police then telephone the Insurers to confirm that their insured had declared being stopped with NO insurance. This usually leads to a massive premium hike and an increase in cars going to the crusher or local auction house. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

Well I rang Churchill and the best they could do was £670. I have therefore cancelled and gone with AXA at £512 which has the specifics outlined in my original post but also includes cover for loss of keys. I am happy with the deal. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby
