Road Tyre Noise or something more sinister??

Hi,
This morning I noticed for the first time a muted "whine" coming from my FL2. Last week, I replaced the front tyres for the first time and I wonder whether one could expect such noise from the tyres. It is not a rumble, more of a whining noise, fairly muted, but it wasn't there before. Car drives perfectly, just 32000 on Clock and recently serviced. Running on 19" Shadow Chromes with standard spec 19" Continental 235/55's.
My Dealer now wants £90 just to test the car (if it turns out Not to be a warranty issue).
Just wondered if anyone can shed some light, or are the FL2's prone to transmission whine??

Thanks - Greg

I have a bit of transmission whine on first gear only. I do believe it's normal. Maybe the low gear ratio on that first gear.
I am running an automatic transmission.
I am running the 19" Conti's too. Cuatro Por Cuatro

Isn't there a particularly good reason to put the new tyres on the back on the FL2, in order to avoid transmission wind up from the slightly different diameter of the new tyres? If I'm right here, that whining noise could be the noise of very expensive damage being done.

I'd certainly swap the wheels front to rear to be on the safe side....

I believe the comments on 'wind up' date back to the early days where it affected the Freelander 1. This was due to the problematic viscous coupling between the front and back, and is not a problem now, any rolling difference will be cancelled out by the coupling.

As for same axle wind up, it shouldn't happen, otherwise the ABS electronics could not do its work by braking one wheel and allowing the other to drive.

The Auto does have a slight whine in first gear but tyres can whine and I would get 4 wheel tracking done first at around £50.

Mine has quite an intrusive whine from the rear.
Fitted new rear tyres a week or so ago - no change.
Service next week when it will be investigated.

My mileage 29,000.

Quite a few posts on this forum about rear diff bearings needing to be replaced. Dealers' standard answer seems to be tyres, but I can't subscribe to that.

£90 to check if it is a warranty issue. Cheeky Censored!

Yes, the £90 charge to check if it's a warranty claim or not is from Hadley Green Landrover, Barnet, London. I think its unfair but typical of this dealer.
