Driving along and the rear nearside brake is squeaking intermittently. Come and goes, but seems to be there more than not.

Pads are not fully releasing from the discs, partially seized components maybe. |

I remember while ago that all Disco's used to do this - I can't remember the exact problem but I think it may have been the anti rattle springy thingy!! Failing that, probably a binding pad / shoe Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints |

I had this. I would put money on yours being the same. It was the hand brake shoes that had disintegrated and corrosion in the disk/drum on mine.

hi you dont say how many miles your landrover has done i did have a discovery once that was doing this and it turned out that the lip on the outer edge of the disc was catching the pad at speed and causing it to squeel now and again at speed you need to strip and investigate rainy-city

Hi - Thanks all for the suggestions. Sounds like I need to get it looked at, but hopefully not too serious. It's done 38,000. |

Had this on my LHF wheel. Turned out the caliper piston had seized. Check for heat at the wheel hub after a ten mile or so drive. A seized caliper will make the wheel too hot to touch! Caliper had seized due to a split in the piston weather seal. 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone) 08 FL2 TD4 SE Manual in Rimini Red (Now Gone) |

Well, I had the same problem when reversing despite having new pads on the front and new disks & pads on the rear. I decided to get my home high pressure compressor out and blow out the brake dust around the outside and inside of all the brake callipers and now the problem has gone at no cost. Happy days and will now do this on a regular basis. |

Cars have been doing this for decades. Take out pads, clean up disc edges, a toffee hammer can remove slag on the outer disc edge if landed at 45 degrees on both sides lightly. Pads; clean the edges and backs (if you have a surface plate you can clean the pad working surface by putting on the surface plate fine emery cloth and give the pad a light circular rub. Clean calipers the best you can without damaging rubber seals. NOW THE BIT YOU DON'T GET WRONG. Refit using copper slip grease, small amount on back of pad and edges where they slide in caliper. DO NOT PUT ANY ON BRAKING SURFACE AND DONT USE TOO MUCH. Modern Electronic Handbrake will be more of an issue of course. |

Don't forget that the FL2 uses single piston sliding calipers and if a caliper is seized on the guide pins you will get a similar effect. Usually fixed by taking it apart, cleaning and greasing and reassembly. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

I have just replaced my brake discs and pads on my 2010 FL2. In the Haynes Workshop manual it says " Land Rover insist that no grease is applied to the pad/ caliper contact surfacers " so I didn't. When the vehicle was serviced yesterday I had an advisory saying " Front and rear brakes are not lubricated which could cause issues in the future" What do other people do? |
