I really didn't notice it on the Demo despite driving it for nearly 3 hours straight, and you are right it is a little annoying. but I figure it will just get tuned out by my hearing after a while, SWMBO doesn't notice it but then she does have tinnitus so maybe that is the answer. SD4 Sport LE Firenze Red - no options or modifications yet, but it's early days. |

I've got a new SD4 XS since March this year and it's just done 1000 miles. It has a loud turbo whistle under acceleration. It's annoying but unless there's a specific fix out there for it, I think I'll live with it. It sounds like you're driving a big transit/sprinter van. Which I guess compared to my previous car (sporty petrol coupe), it is! ![]() |

I too have moved from a long run of petrol coupe cars and it was a huge difference in sound. Guess it goes with the territory. But the +'s outway the -'s. Turn the radio up |

I have been suffering with this whistle and it is driving me mad. Can't get any sense out of LR dealer, but haven't really pushed it with a lack of time currently. I'm starting to think there is more to it than just a whistle and there is an associated lack of power, which in turn makes the gearbox appear dimwitted.

Which would you rather have? a high pitch wistle from the engine or the other half sitting in the back seat yelling out wrong directions. I rest my case

Seems to me some of you are obsessing over the turbo whistle!

Part of the problem is that the car is so refined otherwise that the turbo whistle is very obtrusive. I'm afraid it ruins an otherwise excellent car for me. And it clearly doesn't afflict all cars which must mean there manufacturing tolerances aren't tight enough. |

And some people notice it on their vehicle but not others they drive, eg courtesy cars/demonstrators and also vice versa. If you haven't heard it, believe me it is very annoying and much worse than a typical turbo whistle. Like others I quite like the sound of a turbo coming on song as the revs climb. The difference here is that the whistle is before the turbo gets on boost and therefore isn't masked/complemented by the sound of the engine. It just doesn't sound "right". And I expect things to be "right" if I shell out for a premium car. |

It could be a leak in the air intake system. Might just be worth checking. But like most others, I think it's probably just a turbo thing. Had it once on a Sherpa with Ford engine. Only the one vehicle but it always did it. |

Our 2011 SD4 also has that sound. We noticed it the moment we picked it up from the deals and reported it right a way.
