Buying extended warranty?

Interested to hear from others who have purchased the extended warranty(s) on offer from dealers, my 3 year warranty just about to expire. Extended warranty costs $2300 for additional two years includes road side assist...

Is it worth it while considering the costs of re placement parts!

Cheers Mike

Hi Mike,

I had to option to take out extended warranty, at a discount, when I bought my 2 year old Freelander 2nd hand from a local Ford dealer (Nuford).

I accepted it. The warranty is called Auto Assure with the Advantage package and this gives me 3 years extended warranty.
The Ford dealer tells me that I don't even have to use their dealerships for servicing, as long as it gets serviced, but I am asking for this in writing next week as this warranty is due to start at the end of this month.

They claim it's just the same as manufacturers warranty. The cost for this was $1900 and is fully transferable if you sell the vehicle with the warranty period.

The claim limit is "Market Value" to the vehicle for any one warranty claim and the total ($43,900 what I paid for it inc. warranty) for all claims over the 3 years of the warranty.

Is the $2300 you got quoted from Land Rover?

I bought it a few months ago. Mine cost $2700. I'm on 108,000 kms and haven't had a dealer service since 24,000 kms. The brochure I got said the warranty was the same as the Land Rover one.

My 2 year warranty just finished. I decided not to extend.

Only issues I had before were:
One power socket not working
FOB dock and software needed replacing
Steering colunmn lock displaying a few times though no effect

Haven't had any issues since, fingers crossed!

I've always had it serviced at the dealers, so can I get it serviced elsewhere now?

Huang,

Double check your warranty as LR gives 3 years manufacturers warranty.

Extended warranty

Guys,
Sorry for delay in replying the quote for $ 2,600 was from dealer down the coast tried to negotiate without success, my Fl2 was a demo units Diesel HSE with all the bells and whistles

All FL2 have 3 year warranty no matter how many owners, still not sure about extended warranty but need to decide by the 16th Sept!

Edit updated warranty cost should have been $2,600 not $2,300

There are alot of things that the extended warranties DO NOT cover such as turbo hoses, coolant pipes, but most notably ball joints and suspension bushes afte 100,000klms. There is also a policy that I bought from Southern Cross Auto in Toowoomba which is 3 years and an additional 75,000klms. The service guys was very up front with what they cover and what they don't and I don't have to have the car worked on at a dealer to keep the warranty. Being that I only travelled 55,000klms in the 1st 3 years it was a good option for me.

The Allianz warranty purchased from Land Rover is supposed to cover exactly what the Land Rover warranty covers. I hope so Smile

Unfortunately it does not cover everything the same mikehzz.
I have always been dubious about the "extended warranty" trap so read my book very carefully. Doesn't cover you if a turbo hose or coolant hose splits, paint defects, any interior trim/decorative pieces, seats and seat mechanisms, seatbelts, they also mention that there is no coverage if your vehicle is using or burning excessive oil where no mechanical fault is found and condition relates to normal wear. The local service guys were great and let me know the complete ins and outs before I made my decision to buy it.
I have found mine good so far, and had a few little claims that have probably paid for the warranty so it has been worth it I guess.

Tom
