United Kingdom 2013 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Baltic Blue

"34mpg but my god it's boring! "

Well mines an 08 GS auto and I sprint around to get 34 MPG. On average mine will achieve 42+ on a semi motorway run and 37 overall. When i was in the Pyrenees I did a round trip of 170 miles including up and over the mountains for around 2 hrs climbing nearly 10000 ft and still returned 39 !

Mine drops using supermarket fuel and it used to only do 26mpg and 33 best untill all the recorded faults in the engine were cleared and the extra earth strap was fitted to the engine.

When i tow a 1600KG twin axle van it returns 23-24 and i don't even bother trying for economy then!

England 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Baltic Blue

Last 700 miles of mostly A roads, some dual carriageway and some single lane averaging 38.0 in a manual TD4 on supermarket fuel.

Was in a Discovery 4 today, tank half full, range remaining 130 miles - but to be fair it was a LR Experience vehicle and used mostly off road.

Well there does seem to be a fair amount of slack in all our figures. Mine are real though. i.e. not from the OBC as it is optimistic by around 2mpg (maybe more on others?) and it's all hills around us so the box is happily swopping cogs. But don't think we've ever had more than 36/37mpg on the OBC no matter what the terrain. Not too concerned really just alittle disappointed we never got the magic 40!

My pal has a Probitz chip which adds 5mpg but I have never gone that route in warranty period.... FL2 GS Auto '58reg

well sweetfreedom, if you go to

https://www.freel2.com/gallery/displayimag...&pos=0

you will see figures I got from an eD4 over 50 mpg you will see in the pics the miles on the trip and the fuel range 713 when i filled it up ! so it wasn't fiddled or fixed !

I also go by fill to fill with mine and the trip is about 1-2mpg out. I can get 42 on a 3-400 mile run no problem and thats with an auto !

I believe you, I just reckon all these stats are down to tune, inbuilt variables, geographical location and driving style. there are some wild differences out there...

I would reckon the new 2WD you mention would be capable of mid 40's quite easily as it's aimed solely at doing that. Older FL2's do struggle generally to get decent mpg though.

I must have mentioned our mpg ten times to the dealer and all they say is 'that's about right for an auto that age' etc etc. I know of others getting even worse!

Having said that I know of a chap who has bought a new 1 series BM coupe and expected to get 65mpg and can only get 48mpg and he drives like an old women! FL2 GS Auto '58reg
