Thinking about selling my FL2.

Hi all, after two years of trouble free motoring, we are consiering selling out FL2.
It's a 56 plate 2007 SE with 39k on the clock and 4 brand new tyres.

Whatcar.co.uk says I should get about £15.2 private or £13,7 p/x

Anyone had any recent experience of buying/selling a similarly age vehicle recently and think it is about right?

Any opinion on wether it is worth keeping it till the winter and trying to sell it then?

Not in a mad rush to get rid of it.. but need something with a biger boot.

Thanks.

Charlie

Is that a diesel or a petrol?

How often do you need a bigger boot? When we went on holiday in July, we used our trusty Atlantis 200 top box and gave ourselves another 440 litres of space.

http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic8619.html

I've got photos of it on the Freelander, but they are still in the camera.

Usefully, we can then ditch the extra carrying capacity when we don't need it, which is most of the time! Having been used to driving estate cars with bigger boots than the Freelander, I'm still enjoying parking a car as short as the Freelander and wouldn't be too keen on getting all that extra bulk back!

Could this cure your space problem, without having to part with the Freelander?

Hi there, thanks for the reply. it is a diesel.

Unfortuntely the extra space is used pretty much all of the time. Two young children and double buggy for them tend to do that... so a top box wont be much good.

Looks like an estate is the way we are going to go too. I'm actually really going to miss this car when we do get rid of it.

Charlie.

The new MG6 comes with a huuuuge boot on the GT and very competitive pricing too - fab to drive too.

I too will be leaving Freelander land but will probably wait until the snow lands as prices shoot up then..prices are a bit low at the moment.

Very likely I will be going for a Skoda Octavia estate. Going to test drive it this w/end.

A new one will cost about what I get for my FL2.

Still only another 5 years till my midlife crisis and I can go and buy something completly impractical and sporty to annoy the wife Thumbs Up

Charlie.

If you want practical, what about the Superb?

I did look at one of those. Very nice car with loads of space though, ironically, the drop into the boot and the step up on to the folded rear seats (common with the Octavia) killed it for me as I wouldn't have been able to load a machine that I would need to carry for work. If it's just children's and general family paraphernalia it should be ideal.

I would be very surprised if the Octavia were bigger inside than the Freelander. I looked at one when I looked at the Superb and it was a lot smaller than the inside of my old V70, whereas the Land Rover seems about mid way between the Skoda and the V70.

Thanks for that Rorsters... sounds like a bargain you picked up. sounds exactly the same as mine.. Was that from a dealer, or did you buy it private...?

Good luck with the car.. they are great.

That particular octavia is a bargain.. but dont fancy the 1.6 engine.. am likely to go petrol though and get the 1.4tsi.

I thought this didn't make any sense, so I went to each manufacturer's website to check:

Freelander

Boot, seats up: 755 litres

Boot, seats down: 1670 litres (with flat load floor and no load lip)

Max payload: 550Kg

Max trailer weight: 2000Kg

Octavia Estate:

Boot, seats up: 605 litres

Boot, seats down: 1665 litres (with stepped boot floor and large load lip)

Max payload: 485 Kg

Max braked trailer weight: 900Kg

I don't know if this is important to you but the Octavia has less shoulder room and head room, both front and back too.

Remind me, why were you looking to change again?!

Thanks for that Tigger.. "what car" lists then as 405 litre for my FL2 and 605litre for an octavia estate seat up...

will take the pram with me on Saturday, and chuck it in the back of the octavia... should make things clearer...!

if it works out your stats are right.. then i am back to square one..!

It won't be a wasted trip, check the Superb out while you're there - now that is a proper load carrier and still good VFM too! Thumbs Up

LR websie lists as
Maximum load space - seats up 755 litres for my FL2..... doesn't feel like it..

Got the TD booked anyway.. so will go down there just to have a nose about anyway..

Superb too expensive.. and not really any bigger in capacity (bar 10 ltr)

Interesting. I guess I was looking at it with the seats down and that's then much more like it at 1865 litres.
