If you don't use your air con regular it can cause a build up of bacteria causing bad smells. I believe it's recommended to run your air con on a regular basis to ensure it works efficiently as well.

It may be a good idea to change the pollen filter also |

Polen filter & an antibacterial/sanitizer bomb that is set off whilst the car & aircon is running for 15 minutes. That will do the trick!! (Past) Freelander 2 HSE 2010 MY In Rimini Red.
