2011 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Zermatt Silver

I can confirm that it does not work

Having spoken again to the MD at Superchips I suspect that they hoped nothing had changed on the 2011 version but obviously it has..................... They wanted someone to take their Freelander 2011 up for the ECU to be taken out for cracking but not for me chief.......................

Will leave off the tuning on this vehicle me thinks

I cant help it

I understand the reluctance to have your ECU removed - would you go down the tuning box route?

I only ask as I supply Van Aaken plug in tuning boxes to customers who don't want their ECU removing for modification.

I would need to see the power graphs and pricing before I would go with anything else

I assume it plugs into the OBD port as usual and can be taken off and on myself as being able to carry out the initial load?

It will be solved somehow. It always does. I remember they said the Vauxhall Insignia could not be done, but here we are two years on and all the top VX tuners can map them. They plug into the common rail Basically they work by receiving the signals from the common rail fuel pump, and tell the ECU that fuel pressure has not be reached, and therefore increases fuel pressure which gets you the extra power and torque. This is put simply of course but thats how they work. Some later systems can plug into the boost pressure sensor to alter boost pressure as well.

They are not as crude as they used to be though. I run one on my CLK from my friends compnay www.dtuk.co.uk and it has been perfect.

Ah right gotcha good info there................

Would still prefer a plug and play scenario via the OBD port though................

True, a proper re-map is always the best way to go but a box can be fitted and removed in a matter of minutes. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

Would the Bluefin run Ok with an automatic? I think I read somewhere that the auto has a seperate ECU and may get mixed messages.

You will be fine with an Auto, when the map is written, the gearbox software is also altered to work with the re-map. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

Blufin changes the gearbox software too?

So in theory if your car had the auto gearbox update at a dealers, then that could put it out of sync when the user put it back on. (presuming the user took the remap off due to it going to the dealers)

so if a blufin user didn't take it off and the dealer did a gearbox update then i assume it could the remap change to the gearbox up Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

In theory yes Nick, but it is very rare that a dealer updates the gearbox software. if an auto owner knows the gearbox software has been changed, they can simply inform Superchips and they will set the bluefin to read the car again. From what I`ve know the engine ecu broadcasts over the can-bus, among others, the value of the torque that it`s generating in order for the gearbox ecu to know when to change and how quick.
So, if the tune is proper made, and it properly comunicates the corect torque values after the tuning, in theory, there is no need to change the gearbox software, because the box will know when and how to change in order to protect itself, if needed.

Just installed the bluefin onto my one year old Freelander. Very easy to install and pleased with the extra mid range pull. The best effects are felt in third and fourth gears although I've not done much motorway driving yet. I've not seen any improvement in mpg although as I'm enjoying the extra performance that may explain it.If I have any gearbox or clutch problems I'll let you know.
I'm thinking of mixing 2 stroke oil in the diesel after reading another thread. Has anyone got experience of that?
