I had a bit if a nightmare with FL2.1 spent a bit back at the dealers, I couldn't be bothered inform Which or any other survey as I spent a fair bit on the phone with the dealer or LR

On the flip side I haven't bothered either saying how good FL2.2 is Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Hope you have better luck with your Kuga than my step dad has had with his, is been a right pain in the arse since new, been back to the dealers loads of times for faults. It is still acting up over a year on told him he should have brought a Land Rover

Get some winter tyres for the Kuga. Unlike the FL2, it will need them to make progress in heavy snow. Both cars on M+S tyres, the FL2 could reverse further in heavy snow than the Kuga could manage going forwards

I disagree a little here. When I bought mine, one of the deciding factors was that the MPG was heaps better than the Ford Falcon I was getting rid of (although the Ford was 11 years old). And the Ford had no boot space and as a sedan was useless for carrying anything. I would have to use my girlfriends Corrolla if I wanted to carry anything big. I agree that if the MPG was your main worry, you should probably go buy a Prius or something. 1st time FL2 owner. 2007 SE i6 in Tambora Flame.

Our next door neighbour has a 4-wd Kuga and it has been back to the dealer on a regular basis since he got it. He's well sick OTOH my FL2 has had no problems at all.

And, on an SD I'm getting as good or better consumption than the OPs TD4-e manual - something not quite right there  Brian

Not difficult to make the top 50 of any list to be fair... and have you seen the car directly after the freelander

Give the man a break you's lot - clearly he's been unlucky with his Freelander and now your telling him his Kuga's going to be rubbish as well!!!! Knock a man whilst he's down why dont you

For what its worth - I think all cars build quality are much of a muchness these days - lets face it, the Freelander 2's supposed reliability above previous models was meant to be from Fords production techniques so I'm not sure its going to be much different quality wise... and you will always get friday arvo cars whatever the brand so fingers crossed you dont get another.

As I said before - I've think a cars on going reliability is often related to the mechanical sympathy that the driver has (not always) - its a bit like a relationship, if you dont understand them in the slightest - you'll never last! and there will always be break downs

As a parting note, I think the Kuga looks smart - has a more modern interior (but then I expect the Freelander 3 to be better when it comes out much in the same way the Disco 4 is brilliant) but I dont think it will a a soul like the freelander Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints

Oh, I do agree - and even with an 'ultra reliable' brand like say Audi, or a 'rubbish' brand like say Citroen, you'll always get one that bucks the trend - which is why I haven't much time for people who extrapolate from one very bad (or good) vehicle, reliability-wise to the whole range.  Brian

Andy you have my sympathies - hope you fare better with the replacement car.

Friday cars come in all shapes and sizes, our first FL1 was an absolute nightmare, the second one was almost squaddie proof. Gills Micra has been worse than all the rest put together, only 28K miles one lady owner in 7 years- every known fault (electrical, engine, lights, engine, interior trim, engine, radiator, - did I mention the engine?). What does she want to replace it with - another Micra, her reasoning, no-way it can be as bad as the existing pile of tin.

Got to disagree with Catain Worm, some cars driven kindly still turn out to be unreliable, others driven by "less than sympathetic" drivers survive amazingly well. Especially those driven by me who does know better, but enjoys it anyway .. You never know Andy66 and his spouse might be an amazingly gentle drivers and just unlucky this time. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Not saying its the norm but i do think you get some drivers that are more sympathetic than others... and its not just about people who enjoys' them its about people who have some mechanical empathy who understands the limits of things and how to look after them...
