Picking up my first Freelander 2 - Bali Blue

Hey guys, I just joined and look forward to getting involved in the forum.

I'm gonna pick up my first Freelander 2 GS in Bali Blue today and pretty excited.

It's brand new so I was wondering if you can give me your thoughts on running in and getting to know the car.

Any help is appreciated!

Thumbs Up

Welcome to the Forum.

Cant really comment on running in, I have two weeks to wait for mine, although as with all cars, first 500 - 1000 miles, take it steady, keep revs below 3000, dont labour the engine, don't brake too aggresively, let everything settle down. Most importantly...just enjoy it.

You will get loads of tipa and help form here, occasional mirth thrown in too, such as if you have a caravan, you will be hunted down, shot and possibly fed to some chickens, all will become clear in time Laughing

We look forward to your pics and experiences Thumbs Up

Thanks Taztastic, very much appreciated.

I had heard that caravans had great ground clearance so was looking forward to borrowing one and taking it green laneing Smile

Would also be good to know of any regular meets in my area but I guess that will be a future post...

Will post some pics this evening when I get it in my drive Very Happy

Well done on the car!

The manual has a small section in running in.. If I remember correctly the main points where stay below 3krpm and 68mph.

The dealer (Beadles Sidcup) did a good job on hand over taking the time to explain all the important functions... although he did get stuck when I asked what happens when you press the lock and unlock buttons at the same time.. Weekend after picking up our car I treated it to a clean and polish inside and out which might help to get to know where everything is.

Most important as taztastic says is to get it on the road and enjoy.

If I had the pleasure of a brand new one - I'd run it in by just driving (sensibly!) for a lot of miles - enjoy the comfort and ride...

Take loads of photos and put them in your gallery and gloat endlessly.

I think the Bali Blue is easier to run in than the Black - but if you add the caravan then you have to drive less than 40mph for the first 75,000 miles Whistle 2002 Honda VFR800

As for running in, no need realy just dont thrash it for the first 500 miles or so, same for brakes and tyres try not to slam the brakes on to often in the first 500 , just steady gentle braking.
Obviously if a pram rolls across the road infront of you you are allowed to slam the brakes on, if its only a caravaner or similar then think carefully about bedding the brakes in and only brake if your worried about your bumper Whistle At work

Thumbs Up Good colour choice (from one who knows!)

You are now one of the select few of 2011MY Bali Blue FL2 owners, theres not many of us about since that japan surf wave caused LR to cease production of that colour. had mine 4 months and only seen 1 other bali blue and they looked as shocked as me when we saw each other!

Phew thats a relief, to be honest I was a little concerned about such a radical move on the colour from the standard black, grey, silver cars out there.

In the end it was a difference in spec of the cars that were in stock that made the difference (£700 more for a black one), so I opted for the Blue.

I think it will definately pay off if you cant get hold of them any more tho' Didnt know about the paint supply issues...

Very Happy

That'll explain the lack of pictures, you are allowed to let go of the wheel occasionally Whistle
