Cracked Wheel Arch Trim

Yesterday I noticed that the passenger side front wheel arch trim / engine shield has a 2-3inch crack in it. No idea at all how its happened, I'm the only one who's been driving it and haven't gone off road for a long time and to my knowledge nothing big has flicked up and hit it.

Found the part number LR002319, but its £50-60~ depending where I shop Confused

The rest of the trim is immaculate, and the car obviously drives fine, and this crack is only visible if you really get down and look at the wheel arch and prod it a bit.

Is there anything important behind it? could this crack lead to problems?

Is it possible to somehow fix it? ie take bumper off and glue or tape it up from the other side Question Question or does it make no difference to anything so I can just leave it.

I think the plastic is just there as a wheel arch liner to protect the metal inner wheelarch. So long as it isn't flapping around I can't see what harm a crack will do. I'd be tempted to spray some waxoyl or similar onto the metal wheelarch behind it as a precaution, though.

If it's only 2-3 inches long, drill a small hole at the end to stop the crack spreading further, and possibly try glueing it back together with a reinforcing piece behind it. Or use a peice of very strong 'duck tape'. Poke it, Poke it, make it do it again!!

.... or get really artistic and melt it together using a soldering iron.
