This got stuck on Mersea Hard last week with the tide coming in, it took a army tow truck and a large tractor to free it before it got submerged !

p.s. don't ask what it was doing here on Mersea, it's Censored I'm told

Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated Mr. Green

Serves the British Army right for spending all our money on buying German trucks, it's an MAN (Grogg, cough spit) Evil or Very Mad I bet it was a Scammell or Leyland recovery truck that got it out Whistle

a couple of more pictures here :-

it took both the recovery unit and the tractor seen in one foto background to do the job.

Sadly we are not exactly spoilt for choice now are we, biggest builder here now is Daf, not exactly a top class vehicle, can be compared to a Lada.

Bedford supplied the Army for years. Gone
Scammel. Gone.
Leyland, bought by Daf and gone downhill.
ERF, bought by MAN
Foden, new ones rarely seen now in now owned by Paccar and I think Paccar have their fingers in DAF.
Seddon Atkinson. Gone.
Ford, closed down over here and jumped it with Iveco Evil or Very Mad

So true - In the recent years the Foden trucks were just Leyland specials with customer options, then they dropped the Foden name. Leyland is owned by Paccar.

Edit: The recovery truck doesn't look like a Scammell, but knowing the British army it will be an Oshkosh (USA) Censored tank transporter.
