United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 GS Auto Ipanema Sand

Back on the subject of satnavs, here is my 3-year old Tomtom 520 (5" screen, cost around £150 at the time) mounted in my Freely:

It's mounted on a Brodit mount I got from here:

http://www.dsldevelopments.com/brodit/aboutDSL.asp

The only damage to the vehicle is the rubber insert that needed cutting - I reckon a tenner would get me a new one if I ever want to remove it.

This is the mount with the TT removed:

As you can see, no wires visible Whistle

Actually, I haven't yet got around to putting a direct feed in to the fuse box - at the moment the trailing lead doesn't bother me too much. One day I'll do it Laughing

Tigger outlined some of the advantages of the TT over the factory fit. I'll tell you another.

In 6 weeks, SWMBO and I are going on a 3-week driving holiday in the Rockies and British Columbia. Last week I downloaded from TomTom a Canadian map (cost £29.95) and installed it on a 1Gb SD card I had lying around (my cameras now have 8Gb and 16Gb cards Whistle ). Then I spent an evening building a custom POI file with every place we're staying plus around 20 places we want to visit. When we pick up the hire car I just put the TT520 on a temporary mount and away we go - no paying exorbitant rentacar prices for a satnav, it's all there.

When we get back I just switch maps back to the UK, update my speed camera POIs from here:

http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/

... and add the latest updated POI file of our company's customer locations - and I'm set to go. Try that with your factory-fit £1500 satnav Rolling with laughter Brian

MY11 FL2 SD4 GS
Extras to same spec as XS apart from the Satnav, plus Xenons.
Ipenema Sand, Ebony.

I do not plan to do much offroading, the FL2 wll spend most all its time on the road. I spend 90+% of the time in a car on my own - do about 95 miles a day shuffling to/from work.

I have always had FF Sat/Navs (Audis/VWs and Skodas) and like the integrated nature of them. Hate the fact that most do not support 7 digit post codes - which the TomTom and Garmins all seem to do these days. Also convenience having not to fix it to screen and remove it every time you park etc., also integrated TMC is a bonus.

The HSE spec appeals due to all the things I like (Stereo upgrade, DAB, Sat/Nav, Leather, Sun Roof, Sensors etc.,) as you can see from this list I am mainly a to/from work kinda guy but keen photographer so hopefully FL2 will take me places I would not usually get to in the car.

Interesting comments on wheel sizes.

I hate waiting for AA/RAC/GreeFlag so FF spare wheel option alows me to change wheel as (said previously) I attract punctures.

What about best colour - is car prone to stone chipping?

Sounds like you've got you're choice about right then Thumbs Up I bought the spare, but beware - the standard jack is pretty hopeless Sad Get a better jack if you plan on actually using it. When I plan to go off road, I put a high rise trolley jack in the boot.

What about one of those bottle jacks - are they any good - halfords have a 4 tonne one in stock????

As seems to be being mentioned so far, just make sure that whatever you get has a high lift and has a large enough base to be stable on whatever surface you're planning to drive on.

This works for me, the select members on here will recognise the first picture, and by chance is perfect for the Freely, stable and hydraulic.

Nope, no photoshop, that's it!

Where it is is closer to me and angled directly towards me. Form follows function Laughing
And the cubby can be used for glasses cases etc etc. Brian
