Hi all, finally bought a 2007, black HSE after reading plenty of posts on here before parting with my money.

Very happy with my car and SWMBO (She Who Must Be Obeyed) loves it too, although she is still in awe of it's size; we traded in our old Merc A-Class (piece of junk!).

My question is about the spare wheel. The spare is a steel rim 235 R65 17, the ones on the car are 235 R60 18 alloys rims (as expected on the HSE). Is this normal or have I been ripped off? Shouldn't it be another 18" alloy or was it an option to have a cheaper spare?

Andrew, the 17" steel spare is standard on the HSE, mine is the same.

if you wanted an alloy it would be an optional extra.

count yourself lucky that you have a spare, they now come with a can of foam

Don't worry about the 17" and 18" differences either as they both have the same circumference

The steel is absolutely fine but will have speed limitation stickers all over it, which are obviously there for a reason. Many on here have replaced it with a LR alloy from that well known auction site.

fyi - You can fit varying sizes of alloys/tyres to your car (As long as they are Freelander 2 alloys) as they are all the same rolling radius. Smaller the rim the higher the tyre wall.

As you quite rightly point out you have 60 profiles on your 18'' rims.
You can fit 16's with 70, 17's with 65's or 19's with 55's

Sorry to spoil the party but you have been ripped off. My 2 month old SD4 HSE came with a 5th matching alloy 235/60/18 as an optional extra it cost £155. As for the other advice I would not drive with a different wheel on. LR don't offer a space saver, which is always a different size, they offer "full size spare or can of foam" so why should you have a limit imposed on you. I would be straight back and get a real wheel - you paid for it. Interested which dealer you used>

No fl2 comes with a alloy unless the dealer has upgraded it

I stand corrected - missed the 07 bit. But my MY11 was never offered with a steel spare always a full size alloy or foam.
