Privacy or clear

Was wondering what other FL2 owners thought about tinted windows. Cool
I've ordered mine without but still have the chance to add the privacy glass. Neutral

privacy or clear

Hi Builder i am expecting delivery of TD4 HSE in Rimini Red early december and have not ordered privacy glass .When you see them with clear windows at front and dark at back they look uneven and spoil the effect and have you ever been a passenger in the back of a car with privacy glass, you think its permanently dark .
Only my personal opinion

I disagree i think the tinted glass gives cars like the FL2 a finished look it requires

I also think it gives added security, in the way the car is high enough of the ground any would be thief does not have to bend down to look in and a make his/her intentions clear, so items such as a brief case or coat are harder to see than a car without.

This is the same for the boot, yes you have the load space cover, but, i find that it is loaded above the the cover quite often, so the tinted glass again makes it harder to look through and see its contents

It takes the glare off any baby's in the back seat, keeps the car cooler in summer as well.

If your going to have it fitted after delivery the film version gives glass a shatter proof coating aswell.

but it is personal preference Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

yer ....errr ..no!

I was initially annoyed that I hadn't added this to the spec for my SE auto. Having now got the car, I changed my mind, and prefer the Stornoway grey version without privacy glass. Thumbs Up

There are rational enough reasons to include it; but it does affect the appearance of the car significantly so then it's down to personal subjective preference.

I suggest you look around for several models in appropriate colours, with and without security glass, then make your choice. Rolling Eyes

btw .... don't leave it too late to change your order ..... I called my dealer to add something small to the spec for mine, only to find they'd already built it, two weeks early! Shocked

Denmark 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Stornoway Grey

I've got a Stornoway grey - with rear privacy glass film.

It just takes the sun's glare away for the rear passengers and more importantly, my dog in the boot Razz

Also - it's cuts the headlight glare from vehicles behind, in your rear view mirror.

With film, you can select from dozens of different gradient shades - from the fully blacked out CIA look, to light shading.

Mine is 40% shading - enough to reduce glare & help keep the interior cool - but you can still see out of the windows if you are in the back.

I never had privacy glass fitted on my rimini red ,like everyone has said it's down to you own prefernece ,i am not sure if i like the privacy glass or not so did not want to have it put on then regret if afterwards, and i am happy with that decision, my hubby had privacy glass on a galaxy that he had for a while and i was always waiting for the coffin to fall out the back Mr. Green

privacy or clear.

Thanks for the response, glad to see that I'm not the only one who found it a difficult decision to make. I had no problem deciding on the other extras I wanted but never had privacy glass before and It's a decision that once made is difficult or very expensive to change if I'm not happy with it.

Can't argue with any of the comments that have been made but still unsure what to do.

The vehicle and spec I have chosen is the HSE in stornoway grey, Alpaca leather, diesel automatic, removable towbar. black sill protecting tubes and the door protecting strips.

I will let you know what I decide to do about the privacy glass.

Order the car without it, then you can go into an after market company and test out their sample shades and see if you like the effect on your car, then you can deside whether or not to have if. How can carbon have a footprint, it has no feet?

I think that's the way to go.
Thanks Tim. Thumbs Up

I did the same.

The only pro was the privacy (supposed), but I recently experienced a long night trip on the back seat (very unusual) and very annoyed by the poor visibility.

Anyway, i completely agree is upon everyone wish.

The thing is that if you have aftermarket film put on and then decide after a while you don't like it you can always have it taken off. OK so you are throwing away a couple of hundred notes, but if you take factory tints then you have to replace the windows if you don't like the effect as LR use tinted glass not film, and that is way more expensive (even if you might be able to flog it on ebay Mr. Green )
Must admit that I would have liked privacy glass on my Stornoway RRSport, but didn't spec it but I also don't like the effect that film has when fitted over the heated rear screen element or the rear quarter windows with the built in aerials How can carbon have a footprint, it has no feet?

Hey Builder, check out my galleries Our cars sound hugely similar....I have the privacy too and it really finishes the car off plus the security, reduced night glare from headlights and reduced sun glare in the day its great. My ICE specialist who also does window tinting said film is the poor relation, if you can have it factory tinted do it as however good the film is applied it scratches, lifts, catches and is easily marked over the months and years, even with window travel up down up down starts to fog the film...so dig deep and get the tinted glass, it looks darker looking in than looking out.

Check my galleries Thumbs Up and good luck with your choice
