I have just bought a second hand freelander 2 (2007 V6 SE).

I am looking for an aftermarket gps/bluetooth unit that can do the following:

1. fit in the space at the top of the dash (NOT to replace the radio)
2. Voice operated calling (ie no hands needed)
3. automatically mute the radio when call coming in (or outgoing) - I know this is difficult if not replacing the radio

I am not fussed about dvd etc.

I found this unit in Poland (http://www.navi-media.com/galeria_LRF2.html) but it is very expensive and I have no way of knowing if it is any better or different than this one from China (http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/455371783/special_Land_rover_Freelander_2_car.html)

Any advice / suggestions would be much appreciated!!

There are some garmin satnav out there that have a bluetooth handsfree built in, whether they fit in the holes is another matter Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

i've read through that - and taken the images to 5 local installers. they all say that the problem is the mount / plate to fit it properly and that it would need to be custom made.
i have been quoted everything from $800 to $4000 for the installation and all of them say "that is without the gps and we offer no guarantees about it turning on automatically with the car's power supply"

To fill the hole and do bluetooth headset functions, you could use a Garmin 1490T (search the forums and check my gallery). It doesn't do the muting of the stereo though and I found the audio quality to be not great!

If you find what you are after, do let me know. I am thinking of sticking with the 1490T but getting a parrot bluetooth (or similar) installed.

I installed the unit from China and with help from alex_pescaru managed to get Australian maps working. All worked well unit a month ago when the screen failed. Another forum member in Adelaide also experienced the screen failure but was eventually able to get a replacement because it was only a couple of months old. I don’t believe the quality is there.

Thanks for that. I'd kind of written off the china option anyway.
This is turning out to be a bit of a nightmare.
I think I'm going to fit a parrot Bluetooth and just install a basic garmin gps in the hole.
Does anyone know if that requires a specific bracket?

Troppo5, The Garmin 1490T is an almost exact fit for the OE hole and can be installed neatly - Land Rover Australia fit it as an alternative to the factory unit on the latest models I believe. It has bluetooth although I don't use the phone option on mine. The Garmin doesn't need a bracket for fitting in the cubby hole, it can be wedged in with a minimum of fuss. There are details in posts under 'Garmin 1490T'.

have you thought about a complete new double din touchscreen unit taking out the old stereo. there are some available with aus warranty - search ebay - i have seen some ok reviews on the tunez and other brands
