I have an FL2 automatic,and tow a caravan,(approx 1300 KG) I am considering having a remap to increase the BHP to 190 has anyone got any advice on doing this. Regards Barry

There may be some specialist companies able to perform a remap, especially for towing.

Simply upgrading to 190 bhp wont have much effect, the power needs to be in the right place, not right at the end of the rev range which is were 190bhp is.

A Freelander with maximum torque of 420nM at 1750rpm is only developing about 110bhp, simply turning up the wick may not give you what you need and you need to take into account the gearbox which certainly wont appreciate much more, especially if the remap ups the torque too.

Interesting idea though, will be interesting to see the answers

Yes you dont want to have to drive it too quickly you wont be able to hold anyone up.

There are a few who have had it done on here I expect one of them to be along soon, they also tow a van so will know what you mean, Superchips Bluefin will be the one I would go for though

but en route to your holiday cottage you can go faster and overtake those pesky vanners

I have ran Bluefin for over 3 years now. As for the comments about just turning up the wick, this is not exactly how it is done.

A proper re-map enhance's the factory map, so it will drive like a factory car but alot stronger throughout the rev range. I have found it to be excellent.

The only down side is that under full load, you get a little bit more smoke, not enough to worry about, but mine has not got a DPF, those with DPF will not see any smoke at all. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. VM's do exhaustive testing on mapping. They take into consideration where the power band is to improve driveability. Any remap will more than likley mean that there will be a knock on effect, ie more bhp may result in poor pulling power where you most need it for example. Also, the auto box has it's own ecu which communicates with EM ECU on a high speed CAN bus; thus reducing the effect of remapping.

You do what you want, but L/R will take a very dim view of any remapping and it's a get out for warrenty claims given that you've also a tow bar.

In short, you could end up spending money on something incapable of giving any real benefit and leaving yourself wide open to future warrenty claims. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.
