MP3 / iPod connection

I am a bit confused about the facility to connect an MP3 player or iPod to the FL2. There is apparently an auxiliary socket for an MP3 player, but an Audio Connectivity Module ( £292 + fitting) is required to use an iPod. Does the ACM just provide the ability to control the iPod through the steering wheel controls, with the aux socket only allowing track selection and volume control through the iPod itself? Or is it more complicated than this?

George - the audio in takes any feed through a 3.5mm jack from a p-pod or any other music player Iin effect it just replaces the headphones with a car speaker.

The dedicated system for the i thingy will include a clip/mount that attaches to it and means you can access the menu system of the i thingy through the LR displays

Well that's my guess

I asked a LR salesman if that was the case, i.e. if you can scroll through playlists etc on the binnacle or satnav screen, as was told not on the Fl2. I got the impression that the kit just offers a mounting point, charging and car speaker connection. I too would like to know the definitive answer.

Plenty of aux leads out there, I have a Kensington one that charges the iPhone and also has a lead which plugs into the aux input. Comes with a little remote for play, rwd, fwd, pause, shuffle

Leads comes out in glove box and I got a Brodit holder to see the phone Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

The AUX input socket will only let you control the volume "via the steering wheel or radio control" for any mp3 or ipod that is plugged into it.

The LR iPod kit will give you control of your iPod's volume as above and also allow you to change track/artist via the steering wheel control. There is no display on the cars touch screen, only your iPod's screen can be used to see what's playing or for navigating through tracks. Another benefit is, your iPod will be charged up whenever plugged into the LR kit.

Damned expensive for what you get if you ask me, even BMW only charged around £120 for the kit.
