Winter tires/Rims from a Volvo XC90

Hi guys, I am looking into purchasing some winter tires for my little rover here in canada. I can get a set of 17" Volvo XC90 rims with 235 / 65 / R-17 tires and 5 x 108 bolt pattern. Anyone know if these would fit with no problems? I am not sure if a 17" tire will fit the truck, its a 2008 LR2.

Thanks for any help Smile

Tim

Oh dear, I've driven a Volvo from the age of 39 to 47. What sort of a criminal does that make me?! Shocked Rolling Eyes

Arctic Fire, I don't know about the Volvo stud sizes, but my 2009 i6 is fitted with 17" wheels as standard, so yes you can fit 17s. as a size.

I asked the same question but the other way around, loads of FL2 alloys here and wondered if they would fit on an XC90. No was the general response. Disco3

Boy, we forgot... https://www.freel2.com/forum/post54100.html#54100 Rolling with laughter

Based on alloywheels.com
Make: Volvo Model: XC90 Year: 01> PCD: 5x108 Offset: 35 to 50 Bore: 67.1
Make: Land Rover Model: Freelander 2 Year: 06> PCD: 5x108 Offset: 35 to 50 Bore: 63.4

So PCDs and offsets match.
But the bore (the centre hole) is greater on XC90.
So the answer is:
In theory, the wheels from the XC90 will fit the FL2.
The wheels from the FL2 won't fit the XC90.
For the wheels of an FL2 to fit an XC90, you need to rebore the wheels (enlarge the centre hole).

BUT...
I don't know if it's OK to put a wheel with a larger bore on a car...
At least the bolts must have a conic profile in order to proper centre the wheel as long as the wheel's bore and hub's shoulder won't make this anymore...
But then a lot of tangent forces will be disipated on and only on the hub's studs...
Because normally, the small circular hub's shoulder enters perfectly inside the wheel's bore and takes a lot (if not all) of the vertical stress.
And FL2 is still a 2 tons car... I don't want to think what could happen if you take a pot hole at 60 miles per hour...

Wow great info, thanks for the help! iwill try to find out what the bore size is, just incase. Egipp, what are the factory rim and tire specifications for the 17" rims? I may look into purchasing an aftermarket set of 17" rims with winter tires instead.

Thanks! Great info!

Okay, I found out some info on the rims,
volvo hub: 65.1
and rover hub: 63.4

A difference of 1.7mm, or .84mm all the way around the bore. Is this still too much play? hmmmmm....

Arctic Fire, OE factory fit on SE in Australia, 6 spoke, 17" alloy, 235/65AT. OE tyres were Goodyear Wrangler, now running on Michelin

Are our LR2's lug-centric? (Are the lug nuts tapered?) i am at work and cant check. I think 1.7mm of play may be ok if the nuts taper in to center the wheel... Im so lost. Tire shops cant help me, they say "don't worry about it" as long as the bore fits over your hub...
