From my experience of open the Fob to replace the battery it is very water proof sealed.

We all need to know how you did that.

Thanks for your helpful comment Cerdo. I hope you are met with the same understanding when in the future you have a query or a problem.

It could be the heat from the washing machine that has done the damage.

I suspect this is the problem. I drove for over an hour yesterday (unlocked the car using the second fob, drove the car using the 'water damaged' one) and when I stoped the car I was able to lock it but that is it. I could not unlock it again. So I went back to using the second fob. Does anyone know how much a new one will cost me from the dealership?

That was the exact symptom of my dead fob - would charge for a while in the dock and would be OK to lock - then no power for anything else.

I'd force it open and check inside - solder in new one and see it it still works

I got it open by taking out the emergency key and using a long handle screwdriver in the hole (where the key was) and levering the casing to start it cracking open. It will take quite a lot of force as it is well sealed.

It seems to be doing well now the battery is changed and it has been in the charging dock each time I drive since changing. Works!!!!!! 2002 Honda VFR800

It's a VL2330 and I got mine from ebay. They appear to be at 8.50 + P&P

MAKE SURE it is the horizonal mounting one - the vertical won't fit.

It matched the one in my gallery (which shows the battery code on it also)

I tried my normal electronics suppliers but they wanted minimum order amounts.

Glad my efforts may be of some help...... Thumbs Up 2002 Honda VFR800

I have replaced the battery and used some glue to close it again. I will put the fob to the test later today. I hope it works in the car and it will start charging normally. Fingers crossed...
