Hi Guys, The airbag light has been on for a while in a friends car (2007 SE) she took it in for a service and had this fixed at a cost of £400 for a new airbag !! its now 2 weeks since the service and she tells me the light is back on again.
So me thinks it did not need a new airbag in the first place maybe an electrical problem, she is taking it back tomorrow and they have told her there will not be a charge. Thats good of them dont you think........anyway has anyone had this problem and know of an easy fix or any help I could pass on to her.
P.S. her 5 year old son pulled the screen down that covers the sun roof and now it will not slide all the way back the dealer wanted £600 to fix this needless to say it still does not go all the way back..... TD4 HSE Auto

It's usually one of the yellow connectors under front seat or (possibly, not sure) behind glove box. Standard problem and not just on Freelander. Dealer will normally just read the diagnostics and say it needs a new airbag. I was nearly caught like this on my Disco 2 by a certain North London dealer (under previous management!) but got a second opinion from an indie, who fixed it for free.
With ignition OFF find the connectors and give them a bit of a wiggle.

Mine came on, it was the n/s pre-tensioner around £350

Mine came on - had the drivers side airbag loom replaced and it stil came on... turned out to be a loose wire under the centre console where the airbag module is.

I think experience says most airbag faults tend to be loose wires... the problem is because of the fairly important nature of the system it senses just the slighted drop in votage which will raise the alarm.. it then used to clear after 3 restarts untill it happened again.

When, in the distant past, I did really electronic work we used to fasten most connectors, when in a situation where vibration or knocking would occur, with a few drops (blobs) of melted hot glue from one of those fun "hot glue guns" (with the feed trigger).

Easy to peel off but secure enough to hold connectors together. Could also be used to hold the connector against a near-by fastening point or in our case the bulkhead or similar.

Must say they were great for lunchtime pranks - really funny watching someone try to pick their sandwich box off the bench after it was hot glue down..  2002 Honda VFR800

My parents 10my is back from a few days at the dealers with the same fault, it turned out it was needing a new solenoid... I think that's what they said hope this helps.  21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

i thought it was easy to diagnose the problem, as the ecu stores the fault code ten you can work out whats wrong!

one dealer tried to charge me for plugging the machine in when it was under warranty, and then found no fault! I was not happy and complained and they refended my money!

It's obviously out of warranty so take it to an indie for a second opinion. ______________________

As I wrote above, a loose wire may well generate a false code. I would certainly get a second opinion, and also wiggle those yellow connectors.
