I also think my solicitor had taken a block policy out so it cost now where near the £180 you quote, iirc it was about £50, but small fry to the total £5k+ it cost to move nowadays

I only realised about all this about two weeks ago. We are in the process of trying to buy a house. I received some information via some sort of automated link from the solicitor.

What period is Media Evil? It's MEDIEVAL. The standard of spelling thses days, tisk, tisk! Personally, it's the stamp duty that cracks me up. 12.5k last time! |

That's one expensive house at 1% SD, unless you bought pre SD drop then it's slightly less expensive Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis |

The Stamp Duty is on a sliding scale after 250,000. Then it's 3% between 250,000 to 500,000. Then it goes to 5% up to a million. Anyway, it was purchased a couple of years ago when you might have been charged a little bit more than today.

It's cheap up north....... I hope to downsize next year to a small 2 bed cottage in a more expensive area which will cost me 5% SD, not to mention 3% to the estate agent on the one I am selling, hence I was amused by the £5k to move comment! Upgraded to an ex demo, 7 mth old, Rimini Red/Ebony Napoli Auto HSE on 28th Jan 2011, added roof rails, mudflaps and side strips.

Isn't "SD" some kind of sexual disease? |

Spelling was never my strong point - although I think that one was a typo!
