Update - this has been my experience of buying this product:

Initially I spoke to the nearest Swiss LR dealer and they wanted approximately GB£55 inc VAT and I collect (90kms round trip) or they'll post them to me for an extra GBP£12. So I decided to search the web for them and came across a chap up in Scotland that wanted less than UK official dealer but when I tried to establish that they were indeed the official OEM part he was evasive so I concluded they were probably a Chinese copy.

As it was not an urgent matter albeit, it was an unsightly blemish on her Ladyship's vehicle, I decided to wait until I vist the UK and get some from any owd LR dealer. However, two weeks ago I was on the 'phone to a mate of mine back home in Derbyshire and he asked how was her FL2 so I mentioned these wheel caps.

Today 5 arrived by post. Individually bagged in LR packets - marked made in Italy - new part number LR001156 - official dealer invoice price per unit GBP£4 plus VAT and my mates P&P GBP3.60p. Total for 5 delivered to CH: GBP£27.60.

Conclusion: don't waste time with Swiss LR Dealer or eBay. The UK official market is a low cost trading environment. Very Happy

United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Stornoway Grey

I had a load of these - the silver finish ones. Someone was selling a bucket full for £0.10 or 20p each at the Newbury Sortout a few years ago. I think I still have some somewhere but I gave a lot away. Can't check as I'm on holiday.

So now you guys tell me - I've spent GBP£27:60 of my pension fund on her Ladyship when I could have had a bag full at 10 pence each. I never want to hear again that well worn pathetic chant of "Rip Off Britain". Oh to be in England's enlightened economy, instead of surrounded by swiss shafted sales service and Sepp Blatter.

Would you guys like to donate another 4 caps in case her Ladyship's get nicked again - your expenses will be cover by my pension fund.

some things in Switzerland may be more expensive than in the UK, but the wages are much higher.

I have a relation who commutes every week Swindon area to Geneva to teach in a private school, as she gets payed megabucks compared to teaching in the UK.

so stop moaning.....................your kidding no-one athelstan

What one gets paid and where is relative. What is important is your net disposable income after all necessary expenditures. Comparing incomes in the private education field is an irrelevance to the general population.

Yes, the girls on the checkout here at the major two Swiss supermarkets get paid approximately 2.75x that of the UK's best payers per hour, however, the ladies in the UK do not have to pay for example their own health care. Even if you take only the obligatory basic health insurance you'd be forking out per month around GBP125 for a fit young 23yr old lass plus the "excess" on the insurance and 10% of every bill incurred after you've exceeded your excess. If you have a family like me (and her indoors is a Doctor so we take very much care of ourselves inhouse) we pay approximately GBP£500 per month for our health care insurance on this mornings FX CHF/GBP rates.

Add to that the fact that accommodate probably consumes 40% more of your disposable income here in CH than the UK, and and and - the list goes on and on, you will quickly arrive at the common sense and mathematical conclusion that simply quoting wages is a ridiculous and inaccurate comparative baseline.

athelstan, I'm basing my comments on what I have been told by my sister in law.

she can afford to rent a lovely apartment out there, commute every week, and run a massive farmhouse in Wiltshire.

she couldn't do that on UK wages.

I cannot possibly comment on what your sister-in-law has told you, but, I can comment from long first hand experience on the two economic environments in question.

However, for an independent arbitrator go to "The Economist's" intelligence unit and cross reference their huge and internationally respected research data base on disposable incomes and standard's of living. Their benchmarks and input criteria are acknowledged globally to be well reasoned and equitable.

As with any country, it's difficult to draw a direct comparison. Health Care is the biggy mind you. The USA was minimum 500 to 1200 quid a month. You wouldn't take the cheapy, the middle of the road normally, but there were still lots of costs if you got ill. The health insurance didn't pay everything. The policy I had, you paid the first $50 if you went to the Doctors for anything. You were certainly seen on time and no full waiting rooms like here, plus you could had drive in CT scans, blood tests etc. flu jag stands in the isles at Walmart complete with nurse and administrator/sales person. At first it seems weird, but you got used to it.

thanks athelstan, I'll check it out..............

maybe she is just getting the best of both worlds at the moment, and giving a false impression of the overall situation ?
