FREELANDER INSURANCE

HAVING JUST FINISHED READING THE LATEST (LRO) MAG I WAS LOOKING IN THE VALUES SECTION.CAN ANYBODY TELL ME WHY PRE 2011 SPK VEHICLES HAVE A LOWER INSURANCE GROUP THAN THE FACELIFT 2011 SPK OR IS THIS ANOTHER WAY OF THE INSURANCE COMPANIES SHAFTING US Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad FOR THOSE THAT WANT TO KNOW WHAT THE NEW GROUPS ARE HERE WE GO,

FROM 2006 TO 2010 SPK VEHICLES ARE ALL INS GROUP 13 ALL MODELS INCLUSIVE,

FROM 2011SPK THE GROUPS ARE AS FOLLOWS,

TD4S NOW GROUP 20 AUTO GROUP 21
TD4GS NOW GROUP 21 AUTO GROUP 22
TD4XS NOW INS GROUP 22 AUTO GROUP 24

SD4GS NOW INS GROUP 24
SD4XS NOW INS GROUP 25
SD4HSE NOW INS GROUP 26

IS THIS ANOTHER WAY OF THE INSURANCE COMPANYS PULLING OUR TROUSERS DOW AND GIVING US A GOOD SHAFTING Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad BY THE WAY THE 2011 SPK TD4 SERIES HAS A LOWER BHP AND COSTS LESS TO PRODUCE THAN THE 2010 MODEL AND HAS BETTER CONSUMPTION,

THE GROUP CHANGES ARE ALL THROUGH LANDROVER RANGE GLAD I DONT OWN A DISCO 4 GROUP 41 FOR A SDV6 HSE Big Cry Big Cry rainy-city

don't understand how there can be such a jump in groups ?? wonder if the group range has been changed ? but if the pre facelift is still group 13 then this would not be the reason.

no doubt some insurance experts will post the reason shortly.

All depends on what part of the country and the environment you live in, Mine isn't far off what Bigalf1961 paid.

Re BigAlf's original post, since 2010, the ABI (Association of British Insurers) have moved from a 1 - 20 group rating basis, to 1- 50. I think on BigAlf's numbers, the original. pre-facelift FL2 are grouped 1 - 20, whilst the new version is 1- 50.

Not sure if the link below will work, but here goes:-

http://www.thatcham.org/abigrouprating/index.jsp?page=347

Looks like the newer models are a couple of groups higher. I guess with the SD4 (190) there is more performance, which could explain the higher group. Bit surprised that the 150hp version is higher grouped that the original 160hp, as there isn't any greater performance. Wonder if the new bumpers, grilles, lights etc are more costly to replace? That could be a reason.

May be of interest -probably not- but in Victoria, third party insurance is included by the State in in the annual registration fee (road tax in the UK) of, for my petrol Freelander, $508, £330. Therefore, assuming they are registered, all vehicles have basic insurance. On top of that, I've elected for fully comprehensive insurance, including no excess windscreen cover, at $474, £307, giving a total for road tax and insurance of £637. One excellent feature of Australian insurance, or at least RACV, is that the car is covered for anyone to drive it as standard; if the driver is under 25 or has less than 12 months experience, the excess becomes $1000 -£650- rather than my standard $500, and you don't have to inform your insurer about drivers until you make a claim. This is very handy for family members and visitors from overseas. One other smart thing from the authorities here is that they issue a new tax sticker automatically to your home address every 12 months after the first registration. It only becomes valid when you have paid for it, but you don't have to fill in any forms or apply for the renewal yourself, a benefit from having the basic insurance included in the fee.

Dunno what you're all complaining about...

£1100, fully comp. 31yo.

No NCD and I'd had my licence for a month though! Laughing

Been on bikes for 10 years before getting around to adding my car entitlement, but bike NCD and experience doesn't count towards car insurance... Funnily enough accident history does though... Insurance companies like to have their cake AND eat it, it seems. Thieving ba Censored ds

Still, better than the £1400 TPFT I paid for my first bike Laughing '57 Freelander 2 XS TD4
