slight metallic noise when under acceleration

my 07 plate has been making a strange noise ,when accelerating it sounds like a rattle which stop if you let off the throttle,it's driving me mad trying to find the source and the only thing i know is that it started after having it serviced, i have checked hoses pipes and all the obvious.
anyone got any ideas? Big Cry

Hi LRCRAZY321
Do you have your Air Con on when you here the noise, if so switch it off completely and try accelerating, I had a similar problem and turned out to be the bearings in the AC Pump, drove me mad trying to figure it out.

If it's only happening under acceleration, I'd suspect either the injection system or the air intake. You say it's a rattle rather than a hiss, but I'd still be inclined to inspect the air intake system for leaks or anything loose. If you've checked all those, it's really elimination - what changes under acceleration? Does acceleration put any pipes or anything else under more stress, which might cause a rattle? Make a list and check them all. If it only happened after the service, contact the garage who did it.

Probably really simple like the mechanic left a spanner somewhere, I had this and it was a new pair of molegrips, dropped down the back of the engine. Nice saved me buying some, also got a nice Snap On ratchet spanner the same way.

Hey LRCRAZY321!

Did you ever manage to get this problem sorted?? Was it a metallic clicking noise? Happening at low speed?

http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic9176.html and see my post near the bottom...

Cheers,
J.

could be the shield over the front propshaft.
I had a strange noise like that. It was just the shield that was bent up so that it touched the propshaft.

Hi,
my 07 is also having the metallic/clicking noise, only when the AC is on and when im slowing down using the engine, when i push in the clutch, when nearly standing still, the noise goes away. I'm not having the noise when accelerating.

According to the dealer it should be a cranckshaftpulley.

Im not really sure about this.

A noise that disappears when the clutch is pressed down used to be associated with a worn clutch release bearing. I can't see it being a drive pulley as this would not go away when the clutch is pressed.

The noise only appears when the AC is turned on. If the clutch bearing should be the problem, i should have the noise all the time.

Where do you get your car serviced?, always wanted some Snap On stuff. Gone, 2007 TD4 SE Auto Baltic blue, clear side repeaters, full sized alloy spare.
