I came to my SD4 from a BMW 320d touring and was surprised by how unlike an off-roader it was! I find that using the Sports mode is good if you want performance.
The only way you'd normally be aware is if your eyes focus on the screen rather than the road ahead. Which is the sort of thing you'd do if you were thinking 'wonder if I can see the heating elements'. Personally I love it.
That sounds about right. Again as a comparison my mpg averages 4mpg less than the (2wd) BMW, which, considering the greater rolling resistance and frontal area is about what I'd expect.
Actually I find this (country lane ability) one of the best things about it (I too live in an area with lots of backroads). It's a much smoother ride than the BMW and has better visibility, which means I can actually put more of a move on.
This might be of interest: http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic8612.html Brian MY11 FL2 SD4 GS Extras to same spec as XS apart from the Satnav, plus Xenons. Ipenema Sand, Ebony. Last edited by BrianAbbott on 25th May 2011 2:27 pm. Edited 2 times in total |

You asked for "more advice" and you got it - in spades. It does this, it does that , the windscreen has lines in it, the Subaru does more to the gallon - whatever one of those is.

Thanks for that Triple. I was about to put an order in on Tuesday for a Galway Green SD4 HSE with Almond leather. Now you've got me worried about the colour choice which my wife has decided by process of elimination. The colour choice from Land Rover is now very limited and she definitely won't have black or white; our last eight cars, I think, have been silver with black interior so she wants a change and doesn't want a dark interior this time. She thinks Ipanema Sand is 'pensioner beige' and after looking at a RR in Buckingham Blue decided that was almost black. That leaves Galway Green and Orkney Grey. The latter is lighter than Stornoway Grey and I am not sure how it will look with Almond leather. I believe it is a Jaguar colour, but don't know what it's called - can anyone help here with information or advice on this colour choice. I quite like Galway Green as long as it's combined with a light interior. I had previously asked the dealer if there would be any potential problem with green. They said no, but I should avoid white and Bali blue. also, Izmir blue proved very difficult to sell, although it's no longer available, but around the rural South West, Galway Green is OK. |

You are are getting paralysis through analysis - Imapema Sand aint OAP Beige it's gold - ish or silver -ish depending on the light. Someone on the site said "cow shows up more on almond than black" - so don't get cow on your leather, sorry Pleather. It's your decision so just do it. The SD4 is the dogs boll...ks. unless you want great economy in which case buy a battery driven van. |

Go for Orkney, everybody will like it. The light interior will look classy, but is almond more brown than cream??? I would however add the factory privacy glass to this choice though. Orkney isn't a Jag colour by name, but maybe 'Lunar', which does look v nice with the Jag Ivory interior.

Totally agree about colour choice I have had a pale yellow Subaru, and a blue Seat Ibiza in the past, both apparently "poor resale colours" but as I brought them because I liked them the resale 3 years down the line never really bothered me. I would agree about the factory tints and I have the SD4 and I love it SD4 Sport LE Firenze Red - no options or modifications yet, but it's early days. |

Just a bit of follow-up on comments I made some weeks ago about the SD4's apparent difficulties coming into tight corners and roundabouts - the feedback from other forum members was very enlightening and now means that I switch into "Sports" mode when I suspect I might need the higher revs (ie: Control) coming into such scenarios. I now feel far more comfortable.

Well I've done it! Ordered a new SD4 HSE today from my local dealer who were brilliant. I've got a good p-ex price and a very good discount - bettter than four other dealers I approached. As Triple 7 advised in an earlier post, as I soon got a feel for the likely deals on offer I did not spend hours endlessly playing them off against each other.
