Ok I am sure many of you will call me stupid but I did not opt for the spare wheel when I bought my SD4 XS in December.

I didn't see much point as if i do get a puncture I won't be able to change the wheel anyway (wheel nuts far too tight for a girl) and so will need to call assistance.
Anyway after much nagging by HWIMI (He who I mostly ignore), I have decided to get one

Has anyone bought the spare wheel as an afterthought like me and if so is the jack included too? - I think price is somehwere around £160?  What do I know....I'm only an Essex girl

And on the same site if you type in 'Freelander 2 alloys' - there's loads of wheels to choose from, some with nearly new tyres, some with 'get you home, but legal' tread . When you get one I would always take it to your local tyre dealer get it balanced. It might be OK as it is, but for a £5 it's peace of mind should you ever need it.

Remember your OK with any 16'', 17'', 18'' or 19'' FL2 rim as the tyres fitted to each have different wall heights, and therefore the diameter is almost the same.

You will also need the mounting foam for the spare wheel to stop the wheel rattling around in the boot.

You don't get the mounting foam anymore LR have replaced it with an Elastic Band. The Wheel breaker bar and Jack are strapped together with the Elastic Band for a while now.

I saw a jack and a spare wheel going realy cheap on EBAY, gotta be better than paying £160 from the steelers

Buy the wheel from Ebay, a full sized spare I'd suggest, but go to the dealer for the jack. Surprsingly, it's cheap and is marked Volvo X60/70 for some strange reason.

I have a spare tyre only 235/65/17 goodyear wrangler if anyone is interested has 3-5mm of tread left. To good to through away!

On a similar theme, I now have a spare wheel... If I place this outside face down in the wheel well it interferes with the threaded 'top hat' which the gunk / compressor were screwed to. I have ordered the jack etc from LPR - I asked for "everything I need for the spare". Should I be expecting some kind of mount to sit in the spare wheel before placing the wheel itself, followed by the 'tray' with the jack and wrench? Thanks, Tim.

Spare wheel goes face up with the jack etc underneath it.

Your full size spare sits in the boot with the outside 'face-up' the jack and wheel brace lay on their side under the wheel with the wheel brace clamped into the jack at one end with the all important elastic band on the other. You should get a short threaded bar to clamp through the jack winding handle into the threaded hole in the base-plate of the boot and a longer threaded bar fitted with a plastic locking plate on one end, that fits over the centre section of your spare and screws into another threaded hole in the base-plate of the boot, with the plastic plate tightening down over the wheel face.

I'd take a photo but mine is in for its 1st service and some remedial work!
