There is a diagnostic tool for the DIY person called a "Hawkeye" with dedicated software for landrover so it goes into all the modules and can read and clear codes but also actuate components !

There is nothing to tinker at one's car with these fault code readers (FCRs)...

The Blackbox MSV2 modules for the FL2 are quite limited at the moment; I asked on the support forum if they had a timescale for improving past fault codes, service intervals and basic CCF editing, but it seems development is on hold due to limited man power.

I have Opcom too. As I own an Astra H. Used it quite alot. Just bought a plug & play Maxiscan ms509. Works well for deleting and reading codes & showing live data, on my other half's FL2 & my Astra. Shows vins too. No good for prog variant settings, unlike Opcom. Maxiscan ms509 great for the price, seems robust. No laptop needed, unlike Opcom. Also shows on screen code meanings. You can also store data after unplugging it from cars diagnostic port, has a back up battery. Print off readings later, if req. Landy has now gone. Last edited by Boroboy on 13th Jan 2013 7:57 pm. I had a Rovacom Lite by BBS for the TD5 and it was excellent. However, BBS have not yet got their head around the FL2 and to my knowledge are still not selling a Faultmate MSV 2 or FCR for the Freelander 2. The locking on to one Vin is a bummer in my view and makes it not really financially viable as Alex says.

Update on my Maxiscan ms509, does not work on an FR2. Reduced engine performance light came on. Used scanner, came up with no fault codes stored. Used Landrover Assist, used scanner came up with two codes stored, as follows:- P0087-22 Fuel rail pressure too low & P0088-27 Fuel rail pressure too high. Problem related to a clogged fuel filter. Replaced filter, all A1 now
